Carlin was the first stand-up comedian I ever saw live. That was 32 years ago. I have only a vague recollection of the jokes, but I remember someone in the audience throwing a "hand-rolled tobacco-free" cigarette onto the stage, and he paused, looked at the thrower, and said, "Thanks, man. Really." and then went on with his act, never touching the pot. I don't know if he didn't want it or didn't want to be arrested, but I always thought it was cool that he thanked the donor.
The next time I saw him live was thirty years later (two years ago) and I have to agree about the ranting mentioned here already. (I actually laughed harder at the opening act.) But last year's HBO special had me in stitches the whole time, although in doing so, he probably earned himself an assigned place in the bowels of the underworld. But I think he'll be up for it, arguing for the rights of those still doing time on the "eating meat on Friday" rap.
So give 'em hell, George. Thanks for lightening things up down here.
RIP George Carlin

Carlin is the guest host on SNL this week. NBC will play the 1975 premiere episode of Saturday Night Live.
HBO will be playing many of the Carlin HBO concert specials. Sorry I'm not a subscriber.

I just got rid of HBO a month or so ago, but I still get their emails and they just sent this one earlier this afternoon. I'm going to see if I can get my brother to tape them for me.TheConfessor wrote:Carlin is the guest host on SNL this week. NBC will play the 1975 premiere episode of Saturday Night Live.
