We have a winner in the swollen jaw sweepstakes finally

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Wed Jun 18, 2008 12:38 pm

NOT osteo myleitus

NOT infected wisdom tooth or any other tooth

NOT too much yapping

And the winner is....ACUTE SIALADENITIS

Or

Inflammation of the parotid salivary gland, due to either infection or blockage of the salivery duct.

"During an acute inflammatory process, there is swelling of the affected gland, overlying pain, gland tenderness, fever and difficulty opening. Often the pain is intensified with eating, in that food ingestion stimulates saliva flow, which will typically cause the gland to swell and thus exacerbate the pre-existing symptoms."

I am so overjoyed to have a name for this corner of hell I have been living in.

Jeez, like you really needed this too!

You don't think your stress level has anything to do with this, do you?

Ow! My Mom has gotten that a few times. Antibiotics usually clear it up quick.

When it rains, it pours, Sauce. Hang in there girl, I'm thinking of you. When things are bad for me I try reminding myself that no matter how bad it is, it WILL change - time stops for no man (or woman).

Oh, this is not a new thing. This is the swollen jaw thing I've been dealing with for almost a year now. Occasionally, when eating, one (just one) side of my face swells up like a chipmunk, just in from of my ear.

Hurts like the dickens for about 1/2 hour. Seems that the saliva that is generated from food, can't get out of the duct into the mouth, so it backs up.
