Bix and AJ - Texans, Dynamo

#1 Post by Snaxx » Tue Apr 15, 2008 7:01 pm

For a while I've been thinking of my first trip to Houston since 1999, timing it for a Texans and Dynamo combo and perhaps meeting AJ and or Bix.

The NFL schedule came out today and now I know what weekends both teams are home. If I were to do it this year, the most likely time would be a doubleheader on October 12. The other weekend is the 18th-19th.

Bix and AJ, let me know what you think of the schedule below:

John C. (Snaxx)

Houston Texans Oct. 12 Miami Dolphins 12 p.m.
Houston Dynamo 10/12 - Sunday D.C. United 6:00 p.m
(NY Giants away v Cleveland, NY Red Bulls away midweek)

? factor: Both the same day, though it looks like enough time to get from one to the other. But I'm not familiar with traffic patterns after a Texans game.

Houston Dynamo 10/18 - Saturday Los Angeles Galaxy 7:30 p.m.
Houston Texans Oct. 19 Detroit Lions 3:05 p.m.
(Giants home v 49ers, NY Red Bulls home Sat. night)

? factor: Galaxy a tough ticket with Beckham. My home teams are home.

Either one would be doable, but the first combo would be a little rough if you do tailgating the proper way. That is a very long day.

The tailgating for the Lions game should be pretty fun as it is one of our few 3:00 pm games.

Whew! I'm so glad the Galaxy game got moved to Saturday night from Sunday. It didn't seem like a big deal until now with the Lions game on that Sunday and at 3:00.

My friend Dave in Michigan is a huge Lions fan. He's the one that got me to following them back in the early 80s. He's going to come down for the Texans-Lions game but when that schedule first came out I thought there was going to be a conflict with the Dynamo but I was looking at an old schedule before they moved the Galaxy game.

Anyway, woo hooo.

And, now, maybe Snaxx will be here as well. Double woo hoo.

The October 12 doubleheader would work. You should have plenty of time to get from Reliant to Robertson in two or three hours. As Bix says you might miss part of the total experience trying to cram it all into one day but sometimes sensory overload is a good thing.

Obviously, the October 18/19 weekend would be easier to manage and spread things out over two days. As far as the Beckham ticket situation I can get tickets to that game. Right now I have at least one extra which might be going to my buddy Dave but I can get more. If you do decide on that one give me some lead time and tickets are not a problem.

I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Hey, a thread on meeting bbs! I'll just add my two cents here. Mikehardware decided to visit southern California to see how the traffic patterns compared to Huntsville. Well, it only took him four hours to get from Lompoc (Vandenberg AFB) back to his hotel in Anaheim yesterday. We met and ended up playing NTN at Danny K's. We were too late for Showdown, the primetime game, but we managed to squeeze in a few regular games......which I let him win.....no matter what he says......And as a bonus we saw the Lakers, Dodgers and Ducks all win.
Anywho, we had a good time and we had a good conversation about his future auditioning to get on Millionaire. He sends his regards to the bored.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

The tailgating should be a blast for the Detroit game. Usually we have noon starts so it is hard to do the BBQ-beer thing at 9:00 am.

Thanks for your input!

I definitely hope to do one of those weekends; which one will be something to think of over the weekend.

Hi again Bix and AJ, I searched the thread and saw nearly two months whizzed by. At this rate, soon it will be October!

I'm now aiming for the October 18-19 (Lions 3PM game) week.

One thing that tipped me is something AJ would know about; the US men's national soccer team, assuming a victory against Barbados, will play in DC most likely against Cuba the weekend of October 11. I might want to do that.

Sounds good.

I'm going to be buying some extra Beckham tickets so I'll hang on to one for you until you tell me different.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going to the U.S. World Cup Qualifier against probably T&T in Chicago in September. It's a Wednesday game, though, so I don't know if I'll make it up there. That game in DC looks attractive as well but the Dynamo play DC here in Houston the next day so I'll probably just stick around here.

I had the same thoughts about the Chicago match. I haven't been to the new Toyota Park yet; I've only seen it (and took pictures) of it under construction when landing at MDW. Also the Red Bulls visit on a weekend so I might do that instead.

I'll let you know when I book flights/hotel or if something else happens.

I went online and noticed individual Texans tickets went on sale last Thursday, so it's time for me to book. SWA fares are also good.

Snaxx, I just noticed your avatar, Is there a South Carolina connection?, it sure looks like a Palmetto and Crescent

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I got mine. Section 104 row HH. Also bought the parking. I'll be arriving Saturday 1:55 PM Southwest Airlines.

Wow, it does resemble South Carolina's flag. I took it near LAX airport last year so you could say it comes from another SC.

Looks like the Muslim terrorists have taken over South Carolina. Stay vigilant for affiliated sleeper cells in Raleigh and Atlanta.

I'll add that I'll be staying at the Hilton @ Hobby Airport where I arrive and depart by SWA. It would have been funny had I unknowingly booked my car or hotel at IAH when flying into HOU. The last time I was there I noticed CO had flights between the two airports on their schedule.

Nice tickets. IIRC, that's the home side of the field. Which parking lot is your parking? Blue/platinum is closest to my tailgating, but none of the parking is too far away because it is all surrounding the stadium.

You will have quite the fun day. Get your stomach in the mood for BBQ.

I got Maroon lot, looks to be further away from the stadium than blue, but the same direction. The ticket said Texans bench side of the field.
