QoD 06/10/08 Crack the Code Tuesday

This is an experiment. Today's code is more of an answer than a question. Your task is to interpret the pictures correctly. To do so, click on the link below, then click on the series of pictures to enlarge it to something viewable. If you interpret the code correctly, the answer (or question, in this case) should immediately suggest itself to you. Unlike Jeopardy!, though, you do not have to phrase your response in the form of a question. If you have technical difficulties, please post something in this thread, and I'll try to help you out. If you can't view the picture, because of firewalls or other issues, let me know, and I'll email the file to you. Because this is an experiment, I plan on keeping this game open until Friday morning at 8:00 AM Central time. Good luck!

I saved the file to my desktop so I could enlarge it, but when I do the resolution is so bad I can't tell what or who most of the pictures are. Is there something else I should do? It may just be my eyes that are too screwed up, so do lose too much sleep on this.

First and last lines suggest the geographic extremes of the lower 48 states. Northwest Angle, Minnesota and Key West, Florida. Knowing the other two I can piece together West Quoddy Head, Maine (although I still can't quite figure out the "Quoddy" picture. I suspect if I zoom in it says quoddy on it.) and Cape "Al" "ava" Washington.

What are the furthest points in each direction in the continental US (Washington State, Minnesota, Maine, Florida)?

From your instructions, it appears we only need the question. I hope so, since I'm not exactly sure of all the places. Unless there's a Cape Al Ava, Washington. Ha!

Jerry West and Esther Rolle made me think of the points and then I tried to work backwards, but I was a little flummoxed until I realized that was Minnesota and not Missouri.

I don't recognize all the people in the pictures, but I know Minnesota when I see it, and Mr. Denzil Washington was in a movie I watched, and the lady who plays Florida was in an old TV show I saw a couple of times. In fact, if that basketball player is Mr. Jerry West, about whom Miss Fanny has talked a lot, I can figure out the whole bottom line.

From what I do know, I will guess that the four lines represent the farthest east, west, north, and south places in the continental United States.

If that's not right, it still was fun to play, anyway.

Now that I've seen the answers, I might've figured it out had I been able to know the Met was John Maine. I couldn't read the uni number even at 100% size....

OK, I probably still wouldn't have figured it out all the way, but I'd have at least been on the trail that the clues were states....

Well, I get Minnesota, Washington (Al Roker & Ava Gardner, too, but not sure what they represent), and I'm assuming that must be John Maine, nd I got Key West Florida.

I'm guessing you're looking for "What are the northernmost, westernmost, easternmost, and southernmost points of the lower 48 United States?"

Well, the last set is clearly Key West, Florida!

And the first one is Northwest Angle, Minnesota.

2nd set.....something with Al & Washington....and "Lip?" Maybe Puyallup, Washington? What the heck is the first pic, though, the hoodie or poncho? I'm not sure how to pronounce "Puyallup" -- it's in my reading vocabulary but not my speaking vocabulary -- but "poncho" seems like a bit of a stretch!

I never heard of Cape Whatever, & I couldn't recognize anything in #3 although I am at least familiar with that particular place.

I did crack up at Fanny joking about Cape Al Ava. And don't worry, Fanny, it took me much longer to register and get photobucket working the way I wanted than it did to find all the images, thanks to Google image search. The really tough part was coming up with a question for which the answer would be only pictures.

The "Quoddy" was the biggest challenge, so I thought I was giving it away by putting the word "Quoddy" on the picture,. only to find out the resolution was too poor for some people to see it. But most people seemed to get it, I think. All in all, I'm pleased with the outcome.
