Another lying Republican

#1 Post by Bob Juch » Tue Jun 10, 2008 5:33 am

Carrollton, Texas, Mayor Becky Miller's interesting list of claimed accomplishments was investigated when she ran for reelection. Her campaign materials say she went to Western Kentucky University, but the university has no record of her. She said she was a backup singer for Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne, and was engaged to Eagles singer Don Henley. When all said they didn't know Miller, she claimed they were mistaken. "Maybe I was going by a different name," she said. "Did you think about that?" Miller has said she had a brother who was killed in the Vietnam war. After her father said that his son is still alive, and never fought in Vietnam, Miller claimed her father has Alzheimer's and "He can't remember tomorrow." Reporters found his brother, but he refused to comment. Miller then explained the brother she was referring to was "not my blood brother," and refused to provide his name. Voters weren't impressed with her denials and explanations: Miller was defeated in her reelection bid.

Sounds like she should have no trouble spinning it to show that she did win reelection - at least in her own mind.

Another lying Republican, as another lying Democrat, is redundant.

So where in Texas is Carrollton? How big is it? Is there any other reason we might have heard of it before this big news story broke?

My kids claim there's a town in Texas which has a goat for a mayor. They read it in Nick Magazine.

I'd vote for a goat, actually...

Why do I have the feeling that BJ wouldn't have posted this had the woman been a Dem?

Is the goat a democrat or republican?

If there's a single sentence of truth in Barack Obama's biography, it's merely a coincidence.

Did you mean to put that in a different thread, or is there some reason it belongs here that I don't see?

I don't think you needed to add the "republican" qualifier. I would think that "Another lying politician" would have been sufficient.

I trade you one lying Republican Mayoral candiate for one lying Marxist Democrat presidential candiate.

Carollton is a suburb of Dallas. It is large, 122,000 people.

I think it is the suburb that outlawed renting apartments to illegal aliens.

Lying is a bipartisan activity. Still, those were some pretty audacious lies.

I just think it's ironic to post about a Republican fudging her qualifications when the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has a resume that has been completely fabricated and often reinvented.

He didn't go to law school? He didn't do community organizing work? He wasn't a state rep, a U.S. rep, he isn't a Senator now? What exactly on his resume is he lying about?

Think again. It was Farmers Branch. The courts struck down that law.

It's not much of a town, but Lajitas is famous for electing a goat as its "mayor."

My use of the term "resume" was more along the lines of biography/life story as recounted in his "biography," his web site, his promotional materials and the general statements he makes about his life story.

Those quite often have at best a passing resemblance to the truth.

Two repeated "misstatements" jump to mind.

"My parents met during the Selma March." (This is why such a big deal was made out of the "My Uncle freed the Jews at Auschwitz" IMO.)

He had made a big deal about his struggle with being black at his Hawaiian High School, when his classmates all have said that he never discussed or was concerned with racial pressures in school.

I will not get involved in the political part of this, but being black was considered very negative. In a strange way. Mostly because of how people in Hawaii percieved mainlanders treating blacks. I had a very good girl friend who was the most beautiful combination of Polynesian and Philipino. She once asked me, very seriously, if people on the mainland would think she was black. Because she wouldn't want to be treated the way she heard they were treated on the mainland.

People in Hawaii are such a mixed bunch that people of mixed races are the norm, not the exceptiion.

The rest is for someone else to debate.
