Just caught up on my Sploofus TQOTDs (Why they think they have to put the Ts in there is beyond me. Maybe they're worried we'd sue 'em for copyright infringement. :))

I do a lot of quizzes (today was a good day, 3 100% and 1 90%, on a Night Ranger question of all things!), but I've never seen a leaderboard for that. Where is it?
Leaderboards / Quiz Takers
mrkelley23 wrote:If you haven't already discovered it, the first link on your Sploofus Space, called Your Sploofus Command Center, is very useful for statistics, rankings, etc.

And if you haven't issued any Showdown Challenges, you're missing out on a good way to leapfrog up the Leaderboard for overall points. I'm currently #396 in overall points, but I was #375 earlier this week. I just took too long to remember that Caledonia was the Ancient Roman Empire name for Scotland, on a Showdown Challenge of my own.
Thanks, guys. I never even noticed the quiz ranking right underneath the QOD ranking in the Command Center. But it was just a couple days ago that I noticed I could find the results of all my quizzes. I was wondering if that was a premium feature and might have ponied up the bucks.

I haven't really even read too deeply into how the Showdown thing works, because it all seems too complicated for me. Then again, I'm the one who can't even be arsed enough to click on a 'quiz' link that I see every day for two months in order to find out I can see my quiz results. ha!

I am very disappointed with Sploofus today. Besides those stupid casalemedia windows popping up EVERY time you click (they brag about no banner ads, but I'd rather have a banner ad than 40 windows in my browser after doing the word puzzle), I have found rampant cheating. I know, I'm a cockeyed optimist for even thinking all people would be on the level, but really!

The main reason I was considering paying for the upgrade was so I could do the Word Puzzles every day instead of just once a week. I was all excited to do it today (if you haven't done one yet this week, do today's Carnac one, it's funny). Once I'm done, I get to the leaderboard.

At least a dozen people are rank cheaters! Several have all five puzzles done with a total of 5 moves. I guess it won't let them solve the puzzle without putting in at least one letter. Okay, maybe I'm accusatory, but you show me somebody who can get a long, complicated sentence solved WOF style with ONE letter in 40 seconds. And do it five times in a row. Then I'll apologize. Now I'm sad and all the joy has gone out of doing the Word Puzzle.

Yes, I know, there is always someone who is going to cheat. But, damn, do they have to be so fucking brazen about it? I felt like sending them all a sternly worded email. But then I'd probably be the one to get 86ed from the site.

Oh well, more time for Pogo!

Googling isn't cheating in word puzzles. If a puzzle is easy to google you will often find scores of 5. A score of 5 has no letters as each guess counts as a move.

Sharing answers to TQOTD is considered cheating.

How do you google a bunch of blank spaces?

I just got up to #42. I will never hit the leaderboard for two reasons. #1, I am not quick enough on the draw to get top speed points, and #2, I am at #42 largely based on the fact that in 3 of the 4 days this month, Imy category was "music and musicians".

On that site my screen name is "Bumpa", by the way.

You google the clue.

I've been playing the WPs for a year or so and have often been in top 20 for the month (not bragging, just saying I know WPs).

Some people hate the googlers, some people don't care, some only like the puzzles that aren't googleabe and some only like the ones that are.

Okay, I was about to ask how googling a one word clue would do it, but then I added Carnac and now I see. Well, I said I'd apologize if somebody showed me how they could do it and you did.

I apologize for calling people I don't know rank cheaters.

Still takes away the pleasure I get from the word puzzles, though. Because, in my opinion, not figuring it out from the puzzle is just boring. Maybe I'll keep playing, but just check the leaderboard first and, if there are a bunch of 5 moves, I just won't use my one play a week that day. Definitely won't pay for the upgrade just to play them every day like I was considering.

Thank you for answering, it makes me less sad. And I was sad to be sad at Sploofus, because I like it.

You can't check the top scores without playing. It's only 2.50/month to upgrade to play twice a day.

Sounds like the NTN bars that use laptops during Showdown. For some reason they are called "borg" bars. Maybe kt knows the answer.

I just got another quick correct answer in TQOTD and that now puts me in the Top 100 at #88. :)

There are some that do. We came in second place in last summer's competition to one in Dallas that did. ("We" at the time were in Westbury.) I can't see how a laptop is going to help a whole lot as the points go down on most questions so quickly that you'd not wind up with a good score.

The best way to cheat is to have a cell phone link to someone in another location who is getting the questions (and maybe even the answers) before they come up at your site.

Silvercamaro jumps past me on the leaderboard. I know I was a bit slow this morning but it seems just like another list where she recently went right past me.

This is fun especially seeing all the BB names on the list.

I think it helps during the pyramid round where there is no time penalty. And the warm-up round.

I missed on either Monday or Tuesday, so I'm digging out of a hole. When I answered about an hour ago, I was at #143.

I drop into the 1100's by the time the next question comes around, but bounce higher each time. #216 after today's successful round.

I'm #84. Most of us are within a few points of each other.

Since everyone is bragging, I guess I should join in. Here are my current stats:

All-Time Points: 393,766 - Level: 29.7 - Wager Tokens: 33 - TQOTD Rank June: #6,898 of 43,721 - Overall Rank: #5,890 of 43,721

I don't know what a wager token is.

I finally got one of those wager tokens today.

I guess I should figure out what to do with it.

You earn a Wager Token every time you advance a level. You can wager up to 25% of your total Sploofus points on a QoD. This will not affect your monthly QoD points, but will increase or decrease your cumulative total.

After a certain level, you still get the tokens, but you can't redeem them unless you upgrade to a Pay Membership.
