QoD 06/04/08 Double Play Wed. Game 2 "Music Vocabulary
Double Play Wednesday Game #2 “Musical Vocabulary”
10 points per question
1. What musical instrument’s full name combines the Italian dynamic instructions for “soft” and “loud?”
2. What male vocal part is featured in singing groups such as Chanticleer, in modern opera roles such as the title role in Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, and in classical opera to replace parts originally written for castrati? Be specific!
3. I am a fine musical instrument made of acacia koa wood. I have four strings, although some others like me may have 6 or 8 strings. I am descended from a Portugese instrument called the cavaquinho, and today I am mostly associated with island music. My name has a total of 7 letters, but only 4 different letters are used to form my name. What am I?
4. What instrument, popularized by the Blue Man Group, is made of PVC pipes, played with percussion sticks, but makes use of sliding tubes to create different resonant tones, and can therefore be used as a melodic instrument as well?
5. What is the term for a control on a pipe organ which allows the player to selectively send pressurized air, or wind, to individual pipes, thereby turning them “on” or “off?”

1. What musical instrument’s full name combines the Italian dynamic instructions for “soft” and “loud?” -- the pianoforte
2. What male vocal part is featured in singing groups such as Chanticleer, in modern opera roles such as the title role in Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, and in classical opera to replace parts originally written for castrati? Be specific! -- countertenor
What am I? -- ukulele
4. What instrument, popularized by the Blue Man Group, is made of PVC pipes, played with percussion sticks, but makes use of sliding tubes to create different resonant tones, and can therefore be used as a melodic instrument as well? -- NFC, but I'd sure like to know
5. What is the term for a control on a pipe organ which allows the player to selectively send pressurized air, or wind, to individual pipes, thereby turning them “on” or “off?” -- a stop

Re: QoD 06/04/08 Double Play Wed. Game 2 "Music Vocabu
Well I would have preferred the first set but if I understand correctly that is no longer an option as I am just now getting to the bored. But if it is "all or nothing" then it probably doesn't matter as I am pretty sure I don't know them all in either case.
