I'm set!

#1 Post by gsabc » Wed Jun 04, 2008 8:15 am

Flight into Newark, Air Train to NYC, audition, triumphant Air Train trip back to Newark to pick up rental car, drive to New Brunswick hotel. All on the 16th.

Any good cafes or other places to sit and relax in the studio area? Anyone want to meet before the audition? Since I've got to get to New Brunswick that evening, I'm not sure about afterwards, though I might be able to manage a quick dinner before heading out.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

There's certainly a Starbucks on Columbus just a block up from the studio. If it's a nice day, it could be nice to walk over to Lincoln Center and hang out in it's large courtyard area. That's about a 5 minute walk from the studio. There's also Central Park on the other side of the studio. Strawberry Fields, for example, is about 5 blocks north of the studio and just inside the park.

That Starbucks, at the corner of Columbus and 67th St., is a traditional gathering spot while waiting for an audition. Or you can try the Starbucks that's on the 4th floor of the Barnes & Noble, at the corner of Columbus and 66th St. You get a better view of the skyline from that one! :)

Are you going to be in New Brunswick Tuesday night?

Might be able to do something early. My flight out isn't until 9:50. Add in the drive to Newark and the car dropoff, security, etc. ... I'd probably have to duck out early, but what time do the festivities start? Am I recalling Bennigan's correctly as the locale?

Right. You can have the honor of being the 5th BB to play there.

I won't be there until 6:30, but there are others playing earlier.

Question: Is Air Train or the Newark Liberty Airport Express the better bet into the city from EWR? Penn Station vs. Port Authority Bus Terminal? RT fare for the bus is $25. System wouldn't give me Air Train fares. Travel will be around lunch time going into NYC, sometime between 6:30 and 8:00 PM returning to the airport.

Penn Station is a little bit better for you since it's on the 1 line. You can readily get to the 1 line from the Port Authority by a bit of an underground walk, but it's a little less convenient. Penn is 1 stop further (not a big deal) from the 66th St. stop that you want to get off at.

I don't know anything about the fares for the Air Train fares.

The train takes about 30 minutes. I don't know about the fare. The bus is dependant on traffic, probably through the Lincoln Tunnel. I'd take the train if travelling on a weekday.

Much as I dislike "Starbucks, the concept", they are the only coffee-cafe' type place in the area that doesn't chase away long-term space-occupiers. And if its a hot day, you will need an air-conditioned space to occupy until the test/interview.

Actually from Penn Station, you want to take the 1 line uptown (north) four stops to 66th St. (Lincoln Center).

Wow, my audit's really close by! Can't drink since I've gotta drive, but dinner and a fleshmeet will have to be there. I hope I can hold my own among the local trivia mavens.

I would take the bus. The bus is the easiest thing as long as there is no traffic...they'll stow your bags for you, drop you off on the street, it's more comfy than the train, and cheaper. With the train, you're hauling your bags up and down the escalators that never work, stowing them in those teeny overhead spaces on the train, yadda yadda. But if you're pressed for time on either leg and cannot be late, or if it is high traffic time, take the train. It's more consistent.

One of the larger bb NTN gatherings might have been at Mad River in Manhattan. I'm not sure of the count....anybody?

My memory is hazy. It might have been something like three years ago. It was when I had the unfortunate luck to run into DiBello. He was there with someone taking the test to be on Blind Date I think. I know kt was there. And christie1111 I believe was there also.

Just counting in my head, I get 12. We had people come in and out, so I could be off by a bit.

Are there names to go with these numbers? Or is it just the dirty dozen? At least I didn't invite DiBello to the festivities.

Was I at that one?

I was at one with a bunch of BBs after an audition.

Are there photos in Phoenix of that one?

Glad you were able to make it work! Definitely hang at the Starbuck's, you'll see a lot of people who are there for the same reason. And then you don't have to worry about the time since it's a 3 minute walk to the studio. GOOD LUCK!!!

I'm confused. Are you saying DiBello was at the Manhattan gathering or in North Brunswick?
