Paging Autumn2 and ladysoleil
Did Autumn2 receive a card, and if so, of what flavor? Did ladysoleil's audition happen? If not, have you rescheduled? --Bob

Re: Paging Autumn2 and ladysoleil
Just recalled that ladysoleil had jury duty this week, and wasn't sure she could make the audition. It's possible she's been impaneled, which would explain her absence from the Bored. IIRC, she had also scheduled for June 16th, same day as me, just in case.Bob78164 wrote:Did Autumn2 receive a card, and if so, of what flavor? Did ladysoleil's audition happen? I ended up on the jury for what seemed like forever. Almost two full weeks. (ouch). Case ended in a mistrial to boot.
After that I was in Montreal for a week. So I'm back now and catching up.

Was a hung jury (don't you love the sound of that) or did the lawyers do something stupid?ladysoleil wrote:Good memory, and thanks.gsabc wrote:Just recalled that ladysoleil had jury duty this week, and wasn't sure she could make the audition. Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Re: Paging Autumn2 and ladysoleil
I think it was a little from Column A and B. We had a problem when someone on the jury turned out to be nuttier than a fruitcake crazy, and then another problem when two jurors had some personal differences that they offered to "take outside" to settle. At that point the judge had put up with more than enough and sent the whole lot of us packing.themanintheseersuckersuit wrote: Was a hung jury (don't you love the sound of that) or did the lawyers do something stupid?
I don't think the lawyers can be blamed for two jurors hating each other on contact and wanting to bridge their differences via asskicking, but I do think they should have noticed the one juror was mostly listening to the voices in her head and not put her on the jury in the first place. She was obviously not all there.

Ah! The fine old, medieval tradition of trial by combat!ladysoleil wrote:...then another problem when two jurors had some personal differences that they offered to "take outside" to settle.

I think your jury was more interesting than the two I've been on, although we did have one fellow with his own cable-access talk show who would have debated us forever, if we hadn't needed only five of six votes to reach a verdict in a civil case.
