Lakers/Celtics should be exciting!
If it were 1984 and people named Bird, Johnson (Dennis or Earvin), McHale and Scott were playing.

The Celtics haven't quite made it yet - at least one more game tonight (in Detroit, IIRC).fantine33 wrote:If it were 1984 and people named Bird, Johnson (Dennis or Earvin), McHale and Scott were playing.

It will be Lakers/Celtics, Stern and the media department of the NBA decreed it way back when it allowed the Gasol chicanery. And procured those nudie photos of Kevin McHale and mailed them to Danny Ainge.earendel wrote:The Celtics haven't quite made it yet - at least one more game tonight (in Detroit, IIRC).fantine33 wrote:If it were 1984 and people named Bird, Johnson (Dennis or Earvin), McHale and Scott were playing.

Besides, the Pistons weren't even exciting in 1984.

I do not think that there needed to be nude pictures for McHale to give Garnett to his former team, the Celtics.fantine33 wrote:It will be Lakers/Celtics, Stern and the media department of the NBA decreed it way back when it allowed the Gasol chicanery. If those trades did not show that "the fix was in", then the refereeing during the Lakers-Spurs games sure made it even more transparent. (Of course, the normal ignoring of the rules at the NBA level is a joke itself.)

I'm sorry. I thought that you were implying that McHale was blackmailed into the trade.fantine33 wrote:Yet again, you twist my words.Appa23 wrote:I do not think that there needed to be nude pictures for McHale to give Garnett to his former team, the Celtics.fantine33 wrote:And procured those nudie photos of Kevin McHale and mailed them to Danny Ainge.

It would seem that, even if somebody was dense enough to think I serious, that the term 'nudie photos' would tip them off to the fact that it was a joke. Maybe I should have been more direct and used the example that I usually do, that Ainge must have pictures of McHale blowing Red Auerbach, but I was trying to achieve a measure of decorum in public.Appa23 wrote:I'm sorry. I suppose you thought I was also serious when I said that the Lakers got Pau Gasol for a busted draft pick and an old pair of shorty shorts that once belonged to Kurt Rambis?
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that it's not so much obtuseness or disingenuity on your part and just that you're so intent on picking a fight whenever possible that the ridiculousness of it went over your head.

You were right about that. They gave the Celtics locker room maybe 3 minutes of celebration before they couldn't contain themselves any longer and started rolling footage.gsabc wrote:ABC and ESPN probably have half their interns reviewing and editing vintage LA/Boston games to show during intros, breaks, and so on. I might even watch, if only to see Bird vs. Magic again.
I'm sad this was on ESPN because I really would have liked to hear the TNT guys' take on things (plus seeing Rasheed Wallace gone fishin'). I love Jon Barry, but when they stick him with clowns like Stuart Scott it's almost unbearable.
Then Sportscenter was wall to wall vintage Lakers/Celtics. They even pulled out some old stuff with Cousy, Havlicek and Russell. Comparing the current Big Three to those of the past just makes them look silly.
I hope they make the interns work over the weekend because they were showing the same stuff over and over. Top five in terms of times shown seemed to be:
1. Bird looking up to the rafters during the anthem
2. McHale clotheslining Rambis
3. Sky hook
4. Larry and the towel
5. Kareem losing his shit
As much as I despise Garnett and Sam "Henry" Cassell, I've got to rev up the Celtic love. I adore Big Baby Davis and maybe this can finally ease all those Reggie Lewis and Len Bias memories.
Besides, maybe if they win I can get some bucks for my vintage authentic satin Celtics jacket. I got it back around 1987, so I don't know how 'vintage' that is, but at least the name and shamrocks are in the appropriate shade of green!

It seems like all I do these days is laundry! We set a record low here the other night, and jeans take up more space in the wash than shorts. Plus baseball uniforms, dress clothes for all the end of year ceremonies, etc etc etc...Gimme A Squiggly wrote:All-Purpose Merry Man wrote:Maybe that's McHale shaking his groove thang in the Jesus thread...Larry Bud Selig wrote:

Keep your own pants on Bud! And does anyone else think that good old Bud looks like Judge Alvin 'J.P' Valkenheiser from the movie Nothing But Trouble? Maybe not. I gotta get a new prescription for these glasses.Larry Bud Selig wrote:All-Purpose Merry Man wrote:So, you're saying there AREN'T nude pictures of McHale?
