I would not have been upset had I missed it for my afternoon nap, which is what I was figuring was going to happen.

I was pissed to find out it was forced out while I was out to lunch......

I miss the gus chases of old...... badly..........

I think he means there was gratuitous posting in pursuit of the gus.

I am shocked, shocked that anything like that might have happened!

I understand lb's thing. I stay away from making regular posts when such goings on are in progress, just in case I might accidentally get it (I did the same thing with the hat posts in egroups). I think such things should be organic or they shouldn't count.

I would say what he means by forced out is that the gratuitousness was artificially induced, since even gratuitiosity can sometimes be organic.

However, he's an enabler of the first water by not only recognizing such feats, but memorializing them on a list!

It was different on the TUB, when the post numbers where shared by all the Go boards, so that only beast could figure out what the "real" Bored post numbers were. That made it pretty random who got a gus. But the term "Gus Hunt", from previous incarnations of the Bored, implies that people will actively seek the Gus. And some will get impatient waiting for it to get here.

Personally, I think an on-topic Gus is the most elegant of all! 8)

But we're so rarely on-topic, any more.

Here in granola-crunchy Ithaca, we would only support organic gratuitiosity.

My brother's middle name is my Dad's first name, so it makes sense to me. Ha!

Fanny once again rocks. Spot on on all counts, including me being the enabler (Though I did give up the task of keeping track of the gusses once, though for a different reason. Cal picked it up in my absence)....

This is far from the first time I've been pissed about the way a gus chase has played out. See the 2/13/03 edition title of the rankings, which was so named due to a similar incident in forcing out Love Boat's 60000 post.

The Bored was rolling along rather well this morning. Apparently, though, not well enough because God forbid a gus go by at the wrong time, or more than 15 seconds go by without a post when a gus in only a hundred posts away. And this isn't a new argument for me either, because I used to bitch at the night crew back in the day because for the better part of 2 years, they'd never let a gus hang out there for the morning crew....

And Pea can bite me right back, because she knows damn good and well how I feel about such games....

Whoa, he IS mad. I'm not crazy about gus hunts either. I never pay attention to the post count. I rarely look at my own, and it shows up with every single post.

Maybe every other one could be a surprise for those of us that don't pay attention to the fact it's close. A compromise, so to speak?

Just a suggestion.
