I'm still confused. You pay to go out there and you still have only a 1-in-22 chance of getting on the show?

Those are NOT good odds.

That's what I'm saying. I believe they did not tell vails the new structure of the game otherwise he might have had second thoughts about flying out here. Of course he flew out at least twice to audition and appear in the mob of 1 vs 100. (of course he was hoping to be the "1")

Well, they're taping more than one episode in a day (maybe five) so the odds are a little better than that, but still only about Ring of Fire good. And there's no element of individual skill involved in winning that chance, as there was in the ROF or (might have been) on 1 vs. 100.

Not good at all for someone traveling from outside the area, who has to bring a group of supporters with him at his own expense.

So, if you have 22 potential contestants holding the cases, you also have 88 potential supporters waiting around for them? At least TPTB don't have to make much of an effort to fill up the audience!

They said they would tape five shows in two days. And as I mentioned before, they did not explain how they were going to have only that randomly chosen player play the entire half hour. And as someone pointed out, they don't have to hire any models since the 22 case carriers are the other potential constants.

Well, I guess if I were a potential contestant, I'd stand there with my suitcase NEKKID.

Then they'd pick me soon enough.

Just to put some clothes on me.

That seems easy, using their standard dragging-out-the-tension techniques and including lots of bantering and blithering. And I suspect the Banker's early offers will be low enough to discourage anyone from actually taking one.

Since the contestants hold the cases, does that mean it's like "Let's Make a Deal" and whoever had the most outrageous outfit has a better chance of getting picked?

The format just sounds odd to me. I can even see where a contestant could be a carryover to the next show in order to finish his game.

They claim it is random. So nekkidness would be removed as an option, kinda like our posts.

Just bringing this forward so vails can give us his report.
I also want to mention that we had a semi-celebrity actor. I didn't catch his whole name and I couldn't find him in the credits of Star Trek Voyager. But apparently he was on the bridge through most of the show's run. He must not have had a speaking part but two girls next to me recognized him. He's 56 years old, slim, very tan (he works to support his surfing) with gray hair and a soulpatch/mini goatee. He also said that he just did an eBay commercial that will allow him to surf for another five years. Oh, he was originally from Turtle Creek, outside of Pittsburgh for yinz that care.

Is it Wil Wheaton? ;)

I always knew that he was older than his official biography!

LOL. No. It was Kenneth.........

he made it sound like he was always in the background on the bridge. he has a very distinctive look. I'm trying to find his eBay commercial.

There's a fairly extensive list of the Voyager cast at imdb.com. I don't find anyone named Kenneth on it. Could it have been one of the other Trek series?

I looked there as well. I'm pretty certain he said Voyager. I don't think they list actors who have no speaking roles. But I could be wrong. I knew I should have checked his last name.

There is a blog post about a recent taping of Syndie DoND that Vails and other potential contestants would find interesting.

Of note, there is no friends/family cheering section.

Thanks for finding this. So it's still only one contestant per show? I wonder how they are handling the game-play? With only one contestant per show they will have to do some fancy editing if the contestant decides to walk early.

Just keep the Banker's offers so ridiculously low that nobody would take them, until they can fill the half hour. And if a contestant has abysmally poor luck and decided to take a lowball offer, anyway, the host can always use Howie's "If you had decided to continue, what would be your next choice...and next...and next" trick.
