BARBOURSVILLE, West Virginia (AP) -- One young shopper at a Wal-Mart in West Virginia had to watch out for more than falling prices.


Most of the nearly 2,000 kinds of scorpions are not dangerous to humans.

A 12-year-old girl picking up a seedless watermelon from a bin was stung Sunday by a tan, inch-long scorpion that had apparently stowed away in a shipment from Mexico.

Megan Templeton, of Barboursville, was taken to the hospital as a precaution but later released. Her father, William Templeton, said the pain was a little worse than a bee sting.



He initially did not believe his daughter when she said she had been stung by a scorpion, but then he saw it scurry underneath a box. It was captured by Wal-Mart employees.

I've heard stories of shipments coming in with scorpions, snakes, and other warm-climate beasts stowed away in it, but the best I can do from personal experience is the pallet of Alpo dry dog food that came in during my first year when I was breaking my back in Pets. It was infested with mice.... which began scurrying all over the place after the pallet was brought out to me....

Our manager was moving a display of watermelons this morning as we left, and I warned him to watch out for the hidden scorpions (I heard about this story last night).....

I saw this on Headline News this morning. She kept the scorpion as a pet.
I felt the change

Time meant nothing and never would again
