Maddie is having fun, though her roommate is driving her crazy. (Apparently the roommate needs to call her mom every ten minutes and complain about how the world is treating her.)

The team went to the Marshall Field's Museum and some other museum during the day yesterday.

Last night, after watching a performance at Second City, Maddie was riding on the "L" and somebody told her that her hair was fierce. (Maddie didn't take a flat iron with her and is experiencing the trip with her "Jewtastic curls.") She thought that it was pretty cool.

They are off to a Science Museum this morning and they will start scrimmages this evening.

I'll send her roommate a package of <grumbles>® to tide her over until she gets home.

Maddie only had to call her mom once to do the same?

She called me in the morning to tell me about all of the stuff that she did yesterday.

I asked how she was getting along with the girl, because I knew that she would drive everyone crazy. The boys felt so sorry for Maddie when they found out that she had to room with her that they offered to let Maddie sleep in their room, but I said no to that.

She's been texting me to look up trivia for her, and she's having a blast. She wanted to know that name of Lord Byron's computer programmer daughter, she remembered that her first name was Ada, but couldn't remember the Lovelace part.

Jeff sent her with board games, I think that they wanted to play Puerto Rico all night.

The Shedd Aquarium would be a great place to take this kind of group. I hope they get to see it.

Are they going to Navy Pier? or Shedd Aquarium or Planetarium? All are fun places for kids. I hope she got to see the circular Imax theater at Museum of Science & Industry. it's really the best around. You feel like you are in the middle of the movie.

I hope she has an awesome visit!

. . . and The Art Institute! They must pay a visit to Auntie hermillion's favorite painting.

and of course the beautiful miniature Thorne rooms in the basement of Art Institute. Hermillion and I had a great afternoon oohing and ahing over them with Jac070.

Me too. They are nerds though and would be studying.

She just texted me that she is going downstairs for competition right now.
This will be the first time that one of us wasn't with her in compitition. My baby is growing up.

Please continue to keep us posted on the doings in Chicago. I'll be sending good vibes that direction all weekend.

They didn't advance to today's rounds.

They had won five games and lost four and their last game came down to their last question, they would have won if they got the question. It's sad because they also lost their first game by five points.

Still, they placed 81st place in the tournament, which is better than last year. (There were 176 teams in the field.)

They had personal stats up through the first ten rounds and Maddie was in the running to be on the Freshman All Star team, but they stopped posting stats, so I don't know if she made it.

Maddie told me that it was very Science oriented (she is the Lit, Mythology, Pop Culture and Math expert) and that she was disappointed because there was only one Broadway question all day.

Congratulations to Maddie!

Give that team a couple more years and they'll be in the Top One!

Tell Maddie that I said she can't know everything; settle on knowing just 80% of everything.

So she didn't make Allstars, but she was happy because the younger kids on her team played against the Seniors in a scrimmage and beat them.
