Bridge report
I'd mentioned last weekend that I finally reached the second day of a multi-day event. Alas, the good bridge news ended there. We failed to win our semifinal, and then we failed to win our consolation match, the latter result coming by the paltry difference of 3 IMPs. Ah well. --Bob

Sorry Bob.
I will miss a tournament held in Bismarck the first weekend of June and I will not play live until our regional in Fargo over Labor Day weekend.
I finally achieved LM earning the needed points from our state sectional in Fargo the first part of May. Highlight of the Swiss team game was beating Barry Harper's team.

Yes, Fargo is due south of Winnipeg.macrae1234 wrote:Regina to Fargo for a Sectional Harper is desperate Fargo is South of Winnipeg isn't it?
I know Barry headed for the regional in Winnipeg right after Fargo. I assume he arrived Fargo after Gatlinburg. I also assume from Winnipeg he spent a few days at home in Regina. Nice guy, easy to talk to, but one disheveled looking guy.

There are basically three types of tournaments, sectional, regional and national. The "pros" and Barry Harper being one, will pretty much just play regionals and nationals.AnnieCamaro wrote:I do not know what this means.macrae1234 wrote:Regina to Fargo for a Sectional Harper is desperate Fargo is South of Winnipeg isn't it?

Thank you, sir. I will tell my mom this when I'm teaching her stuff she needs to know. She's not as good a Googler as I am, so it's up to me to find out a lot of stuff.kusch wrote:

I've played in a couple sectionals but never a regional -- scary!
There's a sectional coming up near here in a couple weeks, don't know yet if I'll play.

It's official, by the way. I just got my copy of the June issue of the Bulletin. Your name is listed among the new life masters. --Bobkusch wrote:I finally achieved LM earning the needed points from our state sectional in Fargo the first part of May.

Hmmm, I should get my Bulletin today.
Local club wants to hold a party sometime this summer. They even said they would do an evening game along with the party. I will prolly schedule it when Margaret's sister and husband are visiting in July--they both play bridge.

Out of curiousity how long did it take you from when you started playing duplicate to LM. I know ND is not SoCal with a Regional every month.
I know when I started we had a Regional in Ottawa or Montreal, One in Toronto and one in Syracuse every other year that was a reasonable travel. In addition there were no flights everybody played for the same points from novice to pro LM.

I now need some sectional points to get to the next level.macrae1234 wrote:Out of curiousity how long did it take you from when you started playing duplicate to LM. I know ND is not SoCal with a Regional every month.

I started playing duplicate in (if memory serves) 1979, but according to the ACBL, I joined on August 1, 1980. I made Life Master on January 26, 1986 at the Monterey Regional, the day Da Bears won the Super Bowl and two days before Challenger exploded. I relate the timing to the latter event, actually -- I spent all day Monday driving back to Los Angeles from Monterey down PCH (probably the most beautiful drive I've ever taken), and woke up to my radio the next morning woozily thinking that I was listening to a not-funny joke before I realized that it wasn't a joke at all. --Bobmacrae1234 wrote:Out of curiousity how long did it take you from when you started playing duplicate to LM. Member of ACBL since 4/2000. That would have been my first tournament--a small sectional here. Of the little over 300 that I have, 25-50 would be from club games. Well over 1/3 but not 1/2 were from NABCs.macrae1234 wrote:Out of curiousity how long did it take you from when you started playing duplicate to LM.
