As you already know, we have a Nina! The short and sweet: born at 1:30am on May 20th, 7lb 13oz and 22in long.
The back story: I was 8 days overdue and discovered that I had a teeny amniotic fluid leak. We weren't at all certain how long it had been there, and there was some infection risk, so it was time to get something going! The kiddo looked strong and I wanted to avoid a hospital birth and medical induction, so I chose to stay at the birth center and give the castor oil a go. Fortunately for Nina and I, it worked beautifully.
Well, perhaps "beautifully" isn't the right word. We'll just say it got the job done! We had the castor oil smoothie at noon....labor started by 7:30, and she was born 6 hours later. Totally unenecumbered and unmedicated and un-BS'ed with, we couldn't have had a better experience. There's just no way we'd have had the care and environment that we did if we'd been in a hospital. We were home about 12 hours later and have just been staring at each other ever since.
She is great! Gorgeous and alert and content and (currently) gassy. Dad is fantastic and in love! I feel great! Exhilerated, even. Life is good. WOO HOO! Rock on!
(btw....I saw the other thread - thanks for all of the congrats and well-wishes, and yes that is her actual last name.)
