Mama's Caribbean Odyssey Day 12

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Mon May 19, 2008 10:53 pm

Friday March 21, 2008 – Good Friday – En Route to Miami

Well it finally arrived.

No, not the last day – the preliminary statement. I was not allowed to see it, but the phrase “not as bad as I though” made me feel much better. I was worried about all those DOTD that Erasmus was plying me with. Speaking of Erasmus, I wanted to give him a private gift of appreciation, and noted that I only had Canadian Dollars left. Dad graciously exchanged it for me.

Today was the day to get everything sorted and packed. Luggage was to be outside the doors by 7 pm to be collected for customs. We had to make sure we had our toiletries, jammies and next day’s clothes left out, organize bags to get everything else in, and still have a spot to stick the last minute stuff. Actually dint take too long. We decided to spend the day on the deck together and just chill. We got out our books, hats, suits and shades and headed out.

There was a definite air of melancholy on board, at least from the passengers. The crew was so busy with getting ready for turnover they dint have time to think, let alone anything else. We decided to eat on deck, and then have High Tea one last time. I think I miss doing that with Mom more than anything. We had such fun, and mostly it was just the two of us. Dinner was planned for the Grand Dining Room. Tonight I had the lobster bisque, shrimp cocktail, and chicken parmesan. Petit fours for dessert, coffee, and of course much wine. We went to Martini’s lounge after dinner, and enjoyed the pianist until about 10:30.

Tonight was an early night, as we had to be ready for Customs at 8:30 am, and out of the cabin by 8:00.

We poured drinks in the room, and sat on the veranda and just listened to the beautiful music of the sea. Then off to bed, to be ready for a most hectic trip home.

Trip home will wait, as I don't want to ruin my good mood by writing that out just yet.

One of the things I have observed about myself and others is how hard it is for me to 'be here now'. That is, at the end of a vacation, I am not still on vacation. I am too busy being sad that the vacation will be over tomorrow, to keep on enjoying being on vacation.

In the noticing of that, I find I can sometimes still be on vacation and enjoy it, even during the last day.
