Forget Trump

#1 Post by flockofseagulls104 » Mon Feb 16, 2026 11:02 am

In this thread, after this post let's see if mentions or references to trump can be avoided. I know that's going to severely limit what some people can say or even think, but let's try, OK?

Here's the contrast we are faced with. Go ahead and watch them both. I promise your computer will not explode. If it does because you clicked on the links, prove it and I will buy you a new one.

Both were at the same conference addressing the same issues. You may just say it's a good day for one of them, a bad day for the other. But both are supposedly front line candidates for the presidency from their respective parties. Which one would you rather be elected President? I mean really... Be honest.

Marco Rubio or Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

AOC is only 36, and she is not ready to run for President yet. And I don't think anyone wants her to be the frontrunner for 2028 regardless of what that biased guy on X says. At this way-too-early stage my favorites for the nomination are Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

So, you automatically dismiss everything Rubio said? Not a word about it. That says a lot in itself.

I think the big difference between the two is that AOC believes what she says. About six years ago, Rubio send a letter to Hungary expressing concerns about how he thought Viktor Orban (look him up) was getting to be too tyrannical. Today, he endorsed the guy for reelection in the country, something of an unusual step for a sitting Secretary of State do.

(Also, not really clearly in our interest. Orban has gone out of his way to act as a pro Russian voice in the European Union.)

So post any speech of his that you want. He will change his mind based on when it’s convenient.

Do you have any examples of her turning around and saying something else when it’s politically convenient?

The fact she "believes" what she says is all one needs to know.

Weyoun>>>"I think the big difference between the two is that AOC believes what she says."<<<

Do you generally believe what you say or do you just make stuff up?

A long ways back you said that I posted videos showing that the Ukranian soldiers were all gay.

Despite repeated challenges-you have provided no proof that I did so.

So do you believe I posted such videos or did you just make that up out of whole cloth?

Note-as I never posted such videos it would be interesting to your response.

You posted this (horribly patriotic and pro-Russian) comparison between the US and Russia.

When I talk about how you think Russia is so tough because they are anti-gay it’s this I am thinking about.

Btw, how stupid do you look (moreso than normal) in retrospect. Russia has LOST some gains in Ukraine since that post.

Turns out it takes more to make an army besides hating queers.

What notable things have any of these people stood for or accomplished with their offices that you can cite without breaking the request made in the first post? What would any of them have said if put in Rubio's shoes. I think something similar to what AOC ended up saying... Many words that meant absolutely nothing.

Yet?

Look at pretty much every president we've had in the last, oh, say 250 years and see what they've accomplished by 36. Then compare to AOC. She will never be ready, other than in her own mind.

This was an interesting question to me, so I took the time to do a little reading. Given BiT's opening of the discussion to all of the US presidents, I decided to look at the ones who are considered the best and worst, according to historical consensus.

AOC: college graduate with honors, currently serving her 4th term as US Representative, youngest woman ever elected to Congress.

Best:

George Washington: lesser educated than other members of his family but a respected surveyor and land planner; was serving as a colonel in the Virginia regiment and farming several thousand acres of land; no political office for obvious reasons.

Abraham Lincoln: self-described as self-educated. By age 36 he had opened a law office and already lost several elections. He had served four terms in the Illinois state legislature, and he won his first election to the US House at age 37.

FDR: graduate of Harvard College, one term as New York State Senator, then was assistant secretary of the Navy at age 36.

Theodore Roosevelt: Magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University (note the difference with FDR); had served as a New York Assemblyman for four terms before becoming disenchanted and retiring from politics (for a while). By age 36, he was still ranching in the Dakotas; six years later, though, he found himself vice-president of the US.

Worst:

Andrew Johnson: never attended school. Worked as a tailor until he entered politics. Served in both houses of the Tennessee legislature, being first elected at age 27, and won his first election to the US House at age 37.

James Buchanan: Honors graduate of Dickinson College, studied the law and worked as a lawyer, elected to the US House at age 29, still serving there at age 36.

Franklin Pierce: Graduated 5th out of 14 from Bowdoin College; worked as a lawyer; elected to the US House at age 29, by age 36 he was contemplating resigning from Congress, which he then did the following year.

Warren Harding: No college; worked as a newspaper owner and editor; won election to the state senate at age 35.

I'm not sure I see the clear correlation that BiT is implying here. Of the 8 presidents mentioned, Washington and Johnson could reasonably be seen as successful "self-made" men; the rest inherited enough wealth that they could do just about anything they chose. Politically, none of them were demonstrably MORE successful than AOC by age 36.

And nothing inbetween but bartending, from what I know. Even Joe career politician Biden practiced law for a couple years before joining Congress.
youngest woman ever elected to Congress.
Says nothing about her qualifications. Says more about her constituents and possibly the incumbent she beat.
