Chicago State's men's basketball team was up by 2 with 0.1 seconds left in regulation, and had possession of the ball after a play stoppage. Under the rules, a catch-and-shoot takes at least 0.3 seconds -- the only option for scoring with less time on the clock is some kind of a tip-in. They managed to lose the game anyway.
How? Someone on the Chicago State side called a timeout. Chicago State didn't have any left, so that resulted in a 2-shot technical foul. Both shots were made, sending the game to overtime, which Chicago State then lost. Of course, all the inbounding player had to do was roll the ball on the ground at someone and time would have expired as soon as the ball was touched. --Bob
