Lyrically Speaking 11-3-25

#1 Post by elwoodblues » Sun Nov 02, 2025 10:03 pm

We head into the final week with a theme game. The theme is found in either the title or the quoted lyrics.

1. All my life I've been shortchanged
Without your love, baby, it's a crying shame
And now I know what the fellas talkin' about
When they say that they been turned out

2. And they say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better, but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints

3. I'm top prime cut of meat,
I'm your choice

4. The ground at home was covered with snow. And I was covered in sweat.
My younger brother calls me a killer and My daddy calls me a vet.

5. Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

6. Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll

7. Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind 'er.

8. I need, I need someone to set a pick for me at the free-throw line of life
Someone I can pass to
Someone to hit the open man on the give-and-go
And not end up in the popcorn machine

Bonus: What is the theme?

I'm all out of clever blurbs.

Only the Good Die Young, Billy Joel

3. I'm top prime cut of meat,
I'm your choice

4. The ground at home was covered with snow. And I was covered in sweat.
My younger brother calls me a killer and My daddy calls me a vet.

5. Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

6. Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll

7. Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind 'er.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Gordon Lightfoot

8. I need, I need someone to set a pick for me at the free-throw line of life
Someone I can pass to
Someone to hit the open man on the give-and-go
And not end up in the popcorn machine

We head into the final week with a theme game. The theme is found in either the title or the quoted lyrics.

1. All my life I've been shortchanged
Without your love, baby, it's a crying shame
And now I know what the fellas talkin' about
When they say that they been turned out

I Thank You - ZZ Top

Yeah, yeah, Sam and Dave. But name a song S&D song that ZZ Top didn't do better. I'll wait...

2. And they say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better, but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints

Only the Good Die Young - Billy Joel

My favourite Billy Joel song! Love the bass runs

3. I'm top prime cut of meat,
I'm your choice

Elected - Alice Cooper Group

Alice's campaign song for the last election was A Troubled Man for Troubled Times and I strongly considered writing him in on my ballot. Tell me that Alice wouldn't have done a better job than the shitshow we've been stuck with....

4. The ground at home was covered with snow. And I was covered in sweat.
My younger brother calls me a killer and My daddy calls me a vet.

Still in Saigon - Charlie Daniels Band

5. Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lotta people but it seems the good they die young
I just looked around and he's gone

Abraham, Martin and John - Dion DiMucci

6. Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll

Guy Fawkes Was a Friend of Mine - Jigsaw and the Rippers

7. Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind 'er.

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot

8. I need, I need someone to set a pick for me at the free-throw line of life
Someone I can pass to
Someone to hit the open man on the give-and-go
And not end up in the popcorn machine

Basketball Jones - Cheech & Chong

More moves than X-Lax! Also I ask, nay demand! my first prescient points for using jones in my last LS post...

Bonus: What is the theme?

Thanksgiving, All Saints Day, Election Day, Veteran's Day, JFK, I think the wreck was in November. I can't figure out where Cheech & Chong fits in other than that it's basketball season?

As I type this, YOUR DENVER NUGGETS!!!!!11 are kicking some King ass...
Sharing smokes and a cup of joe with my friend, Insouciant Ruffian. Good times!

Bonus: What is the theme?

I did not realize how much death imagery there was in this game, but the theme was things that happen or happened in November. I thought the SEC game last week would be the hard one, but four people got that one as opposed to three today.

1. Thanksgiving
2. All Saints Day
3. Election Day
4. Veterans Day
5. JFK assassination
6-7. See title
8. Start of the basketball season. The NBA season started in October, but college basketball (the most fun basketball) started today.
