Good news / Bad news

#1 Post by mikehardware » Thu Oct 23, 2025 8:49 am

Well, the good news is that my tooth pain from a cracked root should soon be over!

The bad news is they'll have to extract that tooth, and prepare for a dental implant, first.

I'm scheduled for the oral surgeon on Monday afternoon. Ought to be... not fun, but tolerable with the right meds.

I kind of expect recovery will be similar to the wisdom teeth extractions when I was in college. Anyone else gone through this? Thanks!

My wife has a dental implant but it was't to replace an existing tooth. It was to take up space in the back where she should have had a tooth, but it never came it.

She never had issues until we moved and started with a new dentist. She had issues with the when the new dentist went to remove or tighten the implant crown with the wrong sized tool and stripped the threads. She ended up having to get a new implant. It was not pleasent. I would recomend getting the manufacturer, model, and any specifications you can on the implant from your surgeon and keep for any future reference. My wife has a small mouth so the implant threads were smaller than normal.

Good luck!

My dr takes about 6 months. 1st extracts tooth (actually diff guy did that), waits for that to heal, then shapes hole for implant, waits for *that* to heal, then puts in implant. Then you've got to have cap made & put on tooth.

My good news is nothing bad has happened since.

Thanks for the good feedback! They had to reschedule me for next Monday, to get the dental insurance to cover some of the expense. Sounds like a drawn out process, but should be worth it in the long run.
