Lyrically Speaking 10-17-25

#1 Post by elwoodblues » Thu Oct 16, 2025 9:26 pm

I will leave the previous game open until sometime tomorrow because some of the people who have been playing have not played yet.

For today's game and today's game only, I will borrow LB's Annie Rule and give an extra point for changing Girl or Girls to Squirrel or Squirrels in the title. I will also expand it to include changing World to Squirrel. This will create some interesting titles. This game will be open until Sunday night. Have a good weekend.

1. Too many shadows, whispering voices
Faces on posters, too many choices
If, when, why, what? How much have you got?

2. There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

3. So hard to find my way
Now that I'm all on my own
I saw you just the other day
My, how you have grown

4. Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money?

5. Now, I got mortgages on homes
I got stiffness in my bones
Ain't no beauty queens in this locality, I tell you

6. Uh oh, overflow, population, common group
But it'll do, save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed

7. Every now and then I get down to the end of the day
I'll just stop, ask myself
Why I've done it?
It just seems so useless to have to work so hard
And nothing ever really seem to come from it

8. We’ve got a thousand points of light for the homeless man
We’ve got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand

9. They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light (that's right)
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right

10. Our so-called leaders speak
With words they try to jail you
The subjugate the meek
But it's the rhetoric of failure

11. Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway
She′s living in a world and it's on fire
Filled with catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away

12. How can I get through days
When I can't get through hours?
I can try, but when I do
I see you and I'm devoured, oh, yes

YAY! Let's see if I can follow through and remember my own rule now....

1. Too many shadows, whispering voices
Faces on posters, too many choices
If, when, why, what? How much have you got?
West End Squirrels - Pet Shop Squ... er, Boys

2. There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you
Everybody Wants To Rule the Squirrel - Tears For Fears (This is where I pull a Krox and complain about using the bridge [Yeah, I know, I do it too!]. I knew it was an 80's song, and had to start thinking of every Girl and World songs I knew from the decade to finally nail it down...)

3. So hard to find my way
Now that I'm all on my own
I saw you just the other day
My, how you have grown
Brown Eyed Squirrel - Van Morrison

4. Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money?
I'd Like To Change the Squirrel - Ten Years After

5. Now, I got mortgages on homes
I got stiffness in my bones
Ain't no beauty queens in this locality, I tell you
Fat Bottomed Squirrels - Queen (Still HATE this song...)

6. Uh oh, overflow, population, common group
But it'll do, save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed
It's the End of the Squirrel As We Know It - REM (I think that mouthful has a parenthetical as well, but since my rule is in this game, I'm also not going to include them...)

7. Every now and then I get down to the end of the day
I'll just stop, ask myself
Why I've done it?
It just seems so useless to have to work so hard
And nothing ever really seem to come from it
Here Comes My Squirrel - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (I hate it when I know how the lyrics go, and can even come up with the next lines, and still have trouble making it to the title...)

8. We’ve got a thousand points of light for the homeless man
We’ve got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand
Keep on Rockin in the Free Squirrel - Neil Young (Hopefully GHWB got a writing credit for this one...)

9. They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light (that's right)
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right
Material Squirrel - Madonna

10. Our so-called leaders speak
With words they try to jail you
The subjugate the meek
But it's the rhetoric of failure
Spirits in the Material Squirrel - Police

11. Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway
She′s living in a world and it's on fire
Filled with catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away
This Squirrel is ON FIRE - Alicia Keys (Was not expecting this one!)

12. How can I get through days
When I can't get through hours?
I can try, but when I do
I see you and I'm devoured, oh, yes
Man Eating Squirrel - Jeffrey Dahmer's Sister
