Certainly knowing that the government was involved and told ABC to take someone off the air should be concerning to people who still have some belief in the free exchange of ideas.

It’s quickly getting to the point that anything we say is getting filtered by the government and by billionaires who need government support to keep the money coming in.

One day, and I fear this is approaching way too soon, will turn on the TV and we will know everything we see is untrue.

I am glad Kimmel is off the air. I find him very unamusing and his stuff is all regurgitated rants about the right. I just wish the reason given was an economic decision based on ratings. I don't think anything he said the other night was any worse than what he's done the past 4 or 5 years.

Gina Carano – Fired from The Mandalorian in 2021 for social media posts that didn’t fit the Left’s politics. Dropped by her agency too.

Megyn Kelly – Fired by NBC in 2018, her morning show canceled after comments about Halloween costumes.

Dave Chappelle – Netflix employees staged a walkout and demanded his comedy special be pulled for “transphobia.” The Left tried hard to cancel him.

Joe Rogan – The Left pressured Spotify to drop him, running coordinated campaigns and advertiser boycotts over COVID discussions.

Tucker Carlson – Taken off Fox News in 2023. Liberal activists bragged about advertiser pressure campaigns that helped force him out, costing thousands of downstream jobs.

1) You saw what Jimmy Kimmel actually said. He was not commenting on the shooter's political leanings but on the reactions of right wingers to the shooting. Yet you continue to perpetrate this misinterpretation.

2) I have no problem with people like you, Beebs, BiT, and others declining to watch Jimmy Kimmel, either because of these comments or others he's made. I have no problem with you organizing others to boycott his show. I have no problems with owners of TV stations from pulling Kimmel. They're the ones who will pay the price in terms of lower revenue because of decreased viewership as a result. I remember at one time ABC ran news programming at 11:30 and CBS ran old movies. The reason they dropped that programming and started their own alternative versions of the Tonight Show was not a desire to have comics poke fun at right-wingers but to get more people to watch them late at night instead of Johnny Carson and, later, Jay Leno.

3) What I do have a problem with is Donald Trump and his hand-picked chairman of the FCC putting government pressure on networks and stations to get people like Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and others off the air. That's government censorship, and that's what the First Amendment prohibits. You never heard Obama and/or Biden try anything like this.

Streaming (as opposed to cable and network) now accounts for over half of all TV viewership. In addition, many people who watch ABC programming now do so via Hulu, and those numbers typically don't show up in the Nielsen numbers. Also, your chart shows the ratings for 18-49 year old demographic. They've been more quick to adopt streaming alternatives and, therefore, the dropoff over the last decade would be more pronounced.

No, SSS my main point was that Kimmel and Colbert were completely left-wing-biased and doing the bidding of the democrat party. They were using the PUBLIC airwaves to propagandize on the behalf of one political party. It has been shown that Colbert never had ANY guest who could be looked upon as a conservative or a republican during his entire run. They are NOT serving the public good. And that you know that and are feigning willful ignorance. That was the main point, and it's the truth, whether you like it or not. His ratings are just a sub point.

In case you hadn't noticed, Kimmel and Colbert are not newscasters or news commentators. Their shows are not news shows. They are entertainers, and their shows are designed to entertain. Most of their guests are in the entertainment industry. Serving the public good doesn't mean that every second of the broadcast day has to be devoted to public service. ABC and CBS have extensive news programming and Sunday morning news talk shows.

At one time, the FCC had a requirement that broadcast license holders had to present opposing views on controversial matters. That was called the fairness doctrine. It was abolished in 1987, during the Reagan administration. Ironically, it was the abolition of the fairness doctrine that led to the rise of conservative talk radio, something I don't recall you ever having a problem with.
