Take it up with the show-ruuners
Or perhaps the network affiliates, who have an important merger that they didn’t wanna get killed.

Or maybe the FCC, who directed ABC to take this action.

Certainly knowing that the government was involved and told ABC to take someone off the air should be concerning to people who still have some belief in the free exchange of ideas.

It’s quickly getting to the point that anything we say is getting filtered by the government and by billionaires who need government support to keep the money coming in.

One day, and I fear this is approaching way too soon, will turn on the TV and we will know everything we see is untrue.

I 100% agree with you here. <running off to take my temperature>

And those that wish to speak the truth will need to worry about being shot by some who disagree. That is why the Charlie Kirk assasination is so troubling to me.

I am glad Kimmel is off the air. I find him very unamusing and his stuff is all regurgitated rants about the right. I just wish the reason given was an economic decision based on ratings. I don't think anything he said the other night was any worse than what he's done the past 4 or 5 years.
Agreed. And, one fewer voice spewing hatred to people as they doze off isn't a bad thing.

Cancel culture seems to seesaw back and forth. Everybody goes overboard on the ruling side. Don't know if Kimmel was an economic decision or not, but I agree with certain peeps here on both sides.
I know I'll take my temp, too.
Well, then

Let's do some whataboutism for Jimmy....
Roseanne Barr – Fired by ABC/Disney and her hit show Roseanne canceled overnight in 2018 after one tweet. Hundreds of cast and crew lost their jobs.

Gina Carano – Fired from The Mandalorian in 2021 for social media posts that didn’t fit the Left’s politics. Dropped by her agency too.

Megyn Kelly – Fired by NBC in 2018, her morning show canceled after comments about Halloween costumes.

Dave Chappelle – Netflix employees staged a walkout and demanded his comedy special be pulled for “transphobia.” The Left tried hard to cancel him.

Joe Rogan – The Left pressured Spotify to drop him, running coordinated campaigns and advertiser boycotts over COVID discussions.

Tucker Carlson – Taken off Fox News in 2023. Liberal activists bragged about advertiser pressure campaigns that helped force him out, costing thousands of downstream jobs.

Parler – Apple, Google, and Amazon colluded in 2021 to wipe the entire platform off the internet. Tens of thousands of small creators and businesses lost income overnight.

J.K. Rowling – Blacklisted from events, attacked by activists, and pressured out of projects for speaking her mind.

Mike Lindell – MyPillow pulled from major retailers, banned from Twitter, and targeted with advertiser boycotts.

Alex Jones – Simultaneously banned in 2018 by YouTube, Facebook, Apple, and Spotify. Coordinated erasure celebrated as a model for censorship.

Patterns are clear:

Coordinated advertiser boycotts.

Public celebrations of people losing jobs and businesses.

Two sets of rules — the Left can lie (Russia hoax, Covington kids smear, Jussie Smollett, etc.) and laugh about it, but the Right gets destroyed.

Accountability only ever goes one way. The Left has spent the last decade perfecting cancel culture, destroying jobs, nuking shows, wiping platforms off the internet, and laughing while people’s lives were ruined. But sure… Jimmy Kimmel smugly lying about a political assassination? Totally fine.

1) You saw what Jimmy Kimmel actually said. He was not commenting on the shooter's political leanings but on the reactions of right wingers to the shooting. Yet you continue to perpetrate this misinterpretation.

2) I have no problem with people like you, Beebs, BiT, and others declining to watch Jimmy Kimmel, either because of these comments or others he's made. I have no problem with you organizing others to boycott his show. I have no problems with owners of TV stations from pulling Kimmel. They're the ones who will pay the price in terms of lower revenue because of decreased viewership as a result. I remember at one time ABC ran news programming at 11:30 and CBS ran old movies. The reason they dropped that programming and started their own alternative versions of the Tonight Show was not a desire to have comics poke fun at right-wingers but to get more people to watch them late at night instead of Johnny Carson and, later, Jay Leno.

3) What I do have a problem with is Donald Trump and his hand-picked chairman of the FCC putting government pressure on networks and stations to get people like Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and others off the air. That's government censorship, and that's what the First Amendment prohibits. You never heard Obama and/or Biden try anything like this.

Did the FCC ever pressure anyone with licensure removal over these cases?

But no, they didn't use the FCC, as far as we know.

Oh, poor Jimmy.
You know, people get fired every day. Especially in show business. The left seems to be more upset about Jimmy Kimmel than about Charlie Kirk being cut down in cold blood.

You can continue to use your voice to spread false and hateful garbage if you want. That's free speech. But there are consequences, because other people have free speech too. Sinclair and Nexstar decided enough was enough. And it ain't gonna stand anymore. As Erica Kirk said: "You have no idea what you have unleashed."

Yes, the right is realizing that, with the blessing, encouragement, and assistance of Donald Trump and the FCC, they can use any real or perceived slight to take critics off the air and go after left-wingers in general.

It's amazing how many of these "supporters" of Charlie Kirk didn't care one bit about him when he was alive.

Sinclair and Nexstar decided enough was enough.
Sinclair and Nexstar are about to find out what their ratings will be like when they replace Kimmel with infomercials and 30-year-old episodes of Friends. Networks charge much higher rates for ads on shows like Kimmel and Colbert than for whatever would replace them, because sponsors know people are watching. That's especially true for advertisers like movie studios who tie their ads for new film releases to appearances by stars on the talk shows that week promoting the new film.

Before these comments, Kimmel's remarks had only drawn the usual grumblings from the right. Within hours, Sinclair and Nexstar yanked his show and ABC pulled the plug. That's what government censorship does, and in this case, it does so a lot more quickly than threatening boycotts.

And by the way, there's now a growing backlash against Disney (the owner of ABC) for cancelling Kimmel, with hundreds of protesters yesterday outside Disneyland. We'll see how this all plays out.

The truth is, and you know it, that Kimmel, Colbert and others were and are extensions of the democrat party. Period. That does not serve the interests of the AMERICAN PEOPLE. The broadcast networks are licensed and they have a responsibility to use these frequencies responsibly. Half the country has a voice as well. Deal with it, Jimmy. Get a podcast. They aren't licensed.
I'm so sorry for Jimmy. So is Mike Lindell. So is Tucker, So is Meghan Kelly.

Find somebody that looks at you like Erika looked at Charlie in this podcast clip where he introduced her as his fiance.

I had seen it before but Powerline had this to say about the embedded short clip.

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/ ... ragedy.php

>>>"The video below has brought home to me more than anything else the human tragedy, as opposed to the political outrage, of Charlie Kirk’s murder. It appears to be an outtake from an episode of the Charlie Kirk Show in which Charlie introduced Erika as his fiancé. I won’t describe it further except to say that I think it will strike you as it did me:"<<<

While your chart may be accurate, it's also misleading. Ratings for all network television have been declining over the last decade, coinciding with the rise of streaming alternatives. Even a traditional cable channel like ESPN lost one-third of its viewers, and that's with a massive increase in desirable programming available. Streaming (as opposed to cable and network) now accounts for over half of all TV viewership. In addition, many people who watch ABC programming now do so via Hulu, and those numbers typically don't show up in the Nielsen numbers. Also, your chart shows the ratings for 18-49 year old demographic. They've been more quick to adopt streaming alternatives and, therefore, the dropoff over the last decade would be more pronounced.

Color me surprised as all get out over these comments:
Ted Cruz wrote:[FCC Chairman Brendan Carr] says, We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way,." And I gotta say, that’s right out of Goodfellas. That’s right out of a mafioso coming into a bar going, ‘Nice bar you have here, it’d be a shame if something happened to it.'

Look, I like Brendan Carr. He’s a good guy, he’s the chairman of the FCC. I work closely with him, but what he said there is dangerous as hell. But let me tell you, if the government gets in the business of saying, ‘We don’t like what you the media have said, we’re going to ban you from the airwaves if you don’t say what we like,’ that will end up bad for conservatives.
Perhaps the only time in history I've agreed with Ted Cruz.

No, SSS my main point was that Kimmel and Colbert were completely left-wing-biased and doing the bidding of the democrat party. They were using the PUBLIC airwaves to propagandize on the behalf of one political party. It has been shown that Colbert never had ANY guest who could be looked upon as a conservative or a republican during his entire run. They are NOT serving the public good. And that you know that and are feigning willful ignorance. That was the main point, and it's the truth, whether you like it or not. His ratings are just a sub point.

They are NOT serving the public good.
In case you hadn't noticed, Kimmel and Colbert are not newscasters or news commentators. Their shows are not news shows. They are entertainers, and their shows are designed to entertain. Most of their guests are in the entertainment industry. Serving the public good doesn't mean that every second of the broadcast day has to be devoted to public service. ABC and CBS have extensive news programming and Sunday morning news talk shows.

At one time, the FCC had a requirement that broadcast license holders had to present opposing views on controversial matters. That was called the fairness doctrine. It was abolished in 1987, during the Reagan administration. Ironically, it was the abolition of the fairness doctrine that led to the rise of conservative talk radio, something I don't recall you ever having a problem with.

It has been shown that Colbert never had ANY guest who could be looked upon as a conservative or a republican during his entire run.
9/8/15 (premiere): Jeb Bush
9/9/15: Elon Musk
9/21/15: Ted Cruz
9/22/15: Donald Trump
10/5/15: John McCain
11/6/15: John Kasich
1/6/16 Rand Paul
1/25/16: Donald Rumsfeld
2/8/16: Bill O’Reilly
2/17/16: John Kasich
5/2/16: Bill O’Reilly
6/13/16: Bill O’Reilly

If Flock was as thorough as he usually is, he would have checked this assertion. (It is true that the number of conservatives on the Late Show has decreased over time.)
