The Queen's Gambit

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Tue May 04, 2021 9:58 am

On Netflix. Just finished watching it.

If you had told me beforehand that I would be captivated by a series set in the world of chess, I'd sneer and laugh in a most most unbecoming manner.

But Holy Checkmate, Batman, was it good!

Anya Taylor-Joy, who played the lead, has just signed to play Charlize Theron's role in the prequel to the latest Mad Max movie. It will be called Furiosa.

We finally got Netflix, so I just finished watching The Queen's Gambit. It was indeed excellent.

The series took some liberties with the book, but I applaud them. Most notably, the filmmakers made the ending into an ending, and a triumphant one at that. As I recall, the book ended on a hope-for-the-future note.
-- In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.
-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller
