I think the new logo sucks. Too simple, clean, looks cheap, fast-foodish, online delivery like, if you will.

Cracker Barrel did need to update their stores. I haven't been in one with the new remodel but from what I've seen online, it looks pretty good.

Their biggest need was not a new logo but a return to home (or in-store) cooking. The food quality has degraded significantly over the past 10 years. Going out to eat is too expensive to get reheated frozen or reconstituted food. The portions have always been too large, imo, so if they wanted to have a lower cost/price point per meal, they should have added a "LuAnn" option, like Luby's did years ago.

The CEO has a diverse background but no full-service restaurant experience. 5 years or so at Taco Bell International, and before that Starbucks. If I were the hiring executive I'd ask to see 3 years of credit card statements showing how often the person has eaten at Cracker Barrel, and any of it's competitors. My guess is this CEO never (or rarely) ate home cooking at Cracker Barrel, meaning she does not understand or can relate to the customer base. This is a big problem in Corp America where CEOs and leaders are brought in with the "smarts" but not the "common sense". This is what happened to JCPenny when they brought in former Apple excecutives to "turn around" the company. Those guys probably hadn't set foot in a JCP since their mother brought them in to get their new school cloths for elementary school.

Yeah, good idea, you wouldn't want to bruise your back.

Here's some more misery and mistrust.

No facts and figures here. What looks like those things are obviously made up. Someone went through a whole lot of trouble to concoct this bullshit just to stir up trouble.

But that is all. Call me whatever names you want, but check back next year and tell me how well CB is doing then....

1) Your top investor presented his diatribe to the shareholders in November 2024. They decided to back Masino's Board of Directors, so they obviously weren't impressed by his warning.

2) Comparisons to stock price in 2019 were misleading. Everyone agrees the company was headed in the wrong direction before Masino took over and the stock price fell accordingly. She announced the company's rebranding plan in the spring of 2024 and it was largely implemented in the summer of 2024. Cracker Barrel stock rose 6% today, 40% in the last year. Based on what I just looked up, the stock is up another 3.5% in after hours trading today.

3) Cracker Barrel reported a profit of $12.9 million for the last quarter ending May 2 (the most recent quarterly report on file), as opposed to a loss of $9.2 million for the year before. Earnings were 58 cents a share, above Wall Street expectations.

Oh, just one more thing. CB backed off the logo change.

If I were a more suspicious person, I might think that the company orchestrated this entire logo change precisely to get the type of reaction they did. Now the stock is trading higher than it was before the original logo change announcement and they've gotten millions in free publicity. They even got Donald Trump to give them a plug. Now they can call attention to the various menu changes. while they're fresh in people's minds.

I guess-if you respect the wide depth of knowledge gained from about 5 seconds on Google and and maybe another 10 seconds spent cherrypicking the results to be the ones he agrees with.

Just because it’s easy for him to undermine the stupid arguments made around here doesn’t mean those argument are not pertinent. Keep in mind that the competition is whitefailure cutting and pasting some rando‘s post on Facebook.

I saw a commercial on ESPN's Get Up morning sports talk show today for Cracker Barrel, in which country singer Jordan Davis, who I'd never heard of (I'm not much of a country music fan), but who was prominently identified in the commercial, extols the values of Cracker Barrel, including mentioning how meals start at $7.99. (They know how to appeal to me.) I think that's the first Cracker Barrel commercial I've ever seen at any time.

I have been thinking about the kind of superficial knowledge that the "smartest-but not the wisest" guy on the Bored apparently values VS a deeper, truer knowledge.

Just using the Island of Islay (the Whisky island) in Scotland for example.

Anybody could blow me away on the various facts and figures about Islay that they might learn from a very short time on Islay. For example,I couldn't begin to tell you how many bottles of Laphroig 10 are exported each year etc etc.

OTOH, while (for me) learning about Islay is a lifetime journey-I have been there. I visited several distilleries and generally favor the peated Scotches found on Islay VS non-peated stuff from elsewhere (Macallan 15-Yuck but Port Charlotte 10-Yum). I have seen the malting floors and the cask warehouses etc etc.

I have read books about Islay and talked to people that know more than I do-I have watched way too many Youtube videos about Islay scotches.

But, I guess that knowledge base would mean nothing to Weyoun-he only cares about if someone can quickly Google "How Many bottles of Laphroig 10 are exported each year."

So what is your point? That it's always possible to do greater in-depth research on any topic?

Here's a shocking bit of news. It's impossible for any human being to do complex in-depth research on every subject. So, you pick and choose depending on the importance of the topic to you and whatever external constraints you have.

I'm not the CEO of Cracker Barrel. I'm not thinking about buying Cracker Barrel stock. I was interested enough following Flock's completely baseless babblings to do some research into what's actually going on with the company. And I did somewhat more than 15 seconds of research on the subject. My research was enough to persuade me that, as usual, Flock (and many of the other right-wing MAGAites quoting from the same source) didn't know what he was talking about.

You probably have some knowledge about a variety of diseases. But I'd be willing to bet that Weyoun has a deeper, truer knowledge of those diseases because it's vital to his profession and the lives of his patients. And studying and learning more about those diseases is far more important to him than knowing where to get a good bottle of Scotch.

It’s interesting that you pick that specific example, because I have done a tour of Scotland myself, visiting multiple distilleries. In fact, I’m quite a fan of the more peated whiskys like Laphroig, so you can’t be all bad. In further fact, I purchased a Port Charlotte 10 from Bruichladdich not too long ago.

In fairness, I don’t insufferably blow that type of knowledge up everyone’s asses in rambling, look-at-me posts, so you would not have known that. But I’m also not so arrogant to assume that my experiences are completely unique to myself.

Though it remains strange to me that, on a board normally dedicated to toward a game show about trivia, I get occasionally slammed by Pa Kettle because I actually happen to know some things, while whitefailure rambles on unchecked.
