The leaders said nothing substantive after the meeting. Yet I’m a bit hopeful because:

• Trump consulted with Zelensky and European allies before meeting Putin, and he said future meetings would include more parties
• Trump indicated that if Putin is recalcitrant, the meeting would be very short, and it wasn’t
• Rubio and Witcoff accompanied Trump
  • Rubio has supported Ukraine for years
  • Putin couldn’t show Trump the queen of diamonds
