The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I know I'm not as interested in game shows as I used to be. Maybe it was learning that I have no chance of being selected as a contestant. I guess I don't have that je ne sais quoi.
