One of my best long-term friends will be turning 60 in December. He is actually the reason I am here as my mom decided she wanted a baby when he was born and I was born the following September-so, yes, very long-term-LOL.
I remembered something today and I figured I needed to share it with him and remind him that he was turning 60 soon.
I remember as his 15th B-Day was approaching-I was kind of bummed that we were getting old-we weren't kids anymore and out treehouse and fort type stuff was behind us. He had the best tree house ever that was taken down by a tornado. Unfortunately, there are apparently no pictures of it as there would be today.
This is the kid who came home from his first day of Kindergarten and his mom and dad were gone. He just figured they were at an farm auction sale (this was a big thing for his dad)so he headed down to the barn to start cattle chores and get ready for milking. This was his first day of kindergarten remember-Different times.
Well, I told him about my memories of him turning 15 and I asked him if he realized how old he will be in December. He said-yeah, he knew-LOL.
BTW-we still get to build forts and play in the woods because we have never missed a year of deer hunting together since 1978.

Re: I Cheered Up a Friend Today
Thanks. This past fall, 3 or 4 of our high school friend group(including the guy in the first post) headed down to Phoenix to party with another friend that had moved to Arizona a few years ago. Sadly, I didn't get to go-harvest and all that.
Anyway, those guys still do a lot of partying and our Arizona friend has built a large friend group down there as well.
Over Christmas, we all got together at the local watering hole and they were telling stories about the trip. One thing that stuck with me was that the Arizona friends were basically flabbergasted that our core high school friend group still hangs out (and parties) 40 years on.
I like to hang out with these guys, but there is no way I can even try to keep up with them drinking-so I tend to nurse one or 2 through the evening and enjoy the companionship.
My kids love to be around the group because then the stories about their dad start flying (some of them might even be true-LOL).

Re: I Cheered Up a Friend Today
Sounds like J's friends from college, frat bros etc, that we have been in contact with forever. They are all too old to party hearty anymore, except for one's wife (not me) who is a younger sort...
Well, then
