Lyrically Speaking - 2/7/25

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Feb 07, 2025 4:00 am

Free For All Friday presents us a theme game I'd been mentally working on for a few months now. I'll go ahead and tell you right now that all of these songs are from the 1980's, and when I feature a lot of 80's songs, it's probably because the theme has something to do with music videos (Sorry Vandal, and anyone else who didn't want their MTV). The music videos for each of the songs below have something in common. I think my seasoned MTV pros will get this one rather easily, and maybe even those who only casually watched. For everyone else..... well, entertain me and there may be a supermax in it for ya!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. Hey little sister, who's your Superman?
Hey little sister, who's the one I want?

2. Oh, I want her
Shit, I got to have her
The girl is alright
She's alright

3. There goes my baby
She knows how to rock and roll
She drives me crazy
She gives me hot and cold fever
She leaves me in a cool, cool sweat

4. Slowly we make love
And the earth rotates
To our dictates
Slowly we make love

5. Er war ein Punker
Und er lebte in der großen Stadt
Es war in Wien, war Vienna
Wo er alles tat

6. Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV

7. She's blinding, I'm flying
Right behind the rear-view mirror now
Got the feeling, power steering
Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now

8. Well, we found a little place that really didn't look that bad
I had a whisky on the rocks
And change of a dollar for the jukebox

9. Do I wanna go out with a lion's roar?
Yeah, I wanna go south and get me some more
Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine
They say I better stop or I'll go blind

10. And when she's walking
She's looking so fine
And when she's talking
She'll say that she's mine

11. He got the voices speakin' riddles
He got the eye as black as coal
He got a suitcase covered with rattlesnake hide

12. Touch if you will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside

Theme?

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of the game.

"White Wedding, Pt. 1" - Billy Idol

2. Oh, I want her
Shit, I got to have her
The girl is alright
She's alright

"Legs" - ZZ Top

3. There goes my baby
She knows how to rock and roll
She drives me crazy
She gives me hot and cold fever
She leaves me in a cool, cool sweat

"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - Queen

4. Slowly we make love
And the earth rotates
To our dictates
Slowly we make love

and here's the one that keeps me from completing a clean sweep

5. Er war ein Punker
Und er lebte in der großen Stadt
Es war in Wien, war Vienna
Wo er alles tat

"Rock Me Amadeus" - Falco

6. Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV

"Electric Avenue" - Eddy Grant

7. She's blinding, I'm flying
Right behind the rear-view mirror now
Got the feeling, power steering
Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now

"Panama" - Van Halen

8. Well, we found a little place that really didn't look that bad
I had a whisky on the rocks
And change of a dollar for the jukebox

"Rock This Town" - The Stray Cats

9. Do I wanna go out with a lion's roar?
Yeah, I wanna go south and get me some more
Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine
They say I better stop or I'll go blind

"She-Bop" - Cyndi Lauper

10. And when she's walking
She's looking so fine
And when she's talking
She'll say that she's mine

"Uptown Girl" - Billy Joel

11. He got the voices speakin' riddles
He got the eye as black as coal
He got a suitcase covered with rattlesnake hide

"The Old Man Down the Road" - John Fogarty

12. Touch if you will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside

"When Doves Cry" - Prince

Theme? I know at least most of these had vehicles of some sort in them, cars, motorcycles, or both. I'll see vehicles.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of the game.

"How Bizarre" - OMC

Image Bonus: If you know the theme....

1. Hey little sister, who's your Superman?
Hey little sister, who's the one I want?

White Wedding - Billy Idol

2. Oh, I want her
Shit, I got to have her
The girl is alright
She's alright

Legs - ZZ Top

Okay they both had cool old cars and chicks in lace... Fanny Fun Fact: The reason they used that car in their videos is because of the guys (probably Billy Gibbons) wanted to buy the car and this way could use it as a tax write off.

3. There goes my baby
She knows how to rock and roll
She drives me crazy
She gives me hot and cold fever
She leaves me in a cool, cool sweat

Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen

Funny that Queen is my all time favourite and the only video I remember clearly is the Dwight Yoakum one (I mean, come on, no one could work denim or leather like our boy Dwight). The only thing I vaguely remember about the original is Freddie rocking a leather jacket and modeling a motorcycle like a Price is Right model. Hey, wait a minute, motorcycle? Now I have to think...

4. Slowly we make love
And the earth rotates
To our dictates
Slowly we make love

5. Er war ein Punker
Und er lebte in der großen Stadt
Es war in Wien, war Vienna
Wo er alles tat

Rock Me Amadeus - Falco

Since you already used Taco, it was only a matter of time before this on showed up....

6. Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV

Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant

One guess on what I'm going to singing all night (at least until Kendrick)

7. She's blinding, I'm flying
Right behind the rear-view mirror now
Got the feeling, power steering
Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now

Panama - Van Halen

8. Well, we found a little place that really didn't look that bad
I had a whisky on the rocks
And change of a dollar for the jukebox

Rock This Town - Stray Cats

Okay, you've already used the Holy Trinity of the Stray Cats and it's only two weeks in, what are you going to do now???

9. Do I wanna go out with a lion's roar?
Yeah, I wanna go south and get me some more
Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine
They say I better stop or I'll go blind

She Bop - Cyndi Lauper

Can Turning Japanese be far behind??

10. And when she's walking
She's looking so fine
And when she's talking
She'll say that she's mine

Uptown Girl - Billy Joel

11. He got the voices speakin' riddles
He got the eye as black as coal
He got a suitcase covered with rattlesnake hide

Old Man Down the Road - John Fogerty

12. Touch if you will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside

When Doves Cry - Prince

Theme?

Videos with motorcyles

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of the game.

Unskinny Bop - Poison

Once I figured out the theme at song 3, I held my breath hoping you wouldn't use Poison, since that's the first one I thought of (although now I can immediately think of about four more...)

Image Bonus: If you know the theme....

I couldn't use this one for my official IB because it didn't have a motorcycle, but had to include Feline Rob Halford if for no other reason than the little hat!

1. Hey little sister, who's your Superman?
Hey little sister, who's the one I want?
White Wedding - Billy Idol (Oddly enough, a marginal Top 40 hit back in the day, but now a certified 80's staple. Blonde Elvis didn't really become mainstream until the Rebel Yell album...)

2. Oh, I want her
Shit, I got to have her
The girl is alright
She's alright
Legs - ZZ Top

3. There goes my baby
She knows how to rock and roll
She drives me crazy
She gives me hot and cold fever
She leaves me in a cool, cool sweat
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen

4. Slowly we make love
And the earth rotates
To our dictates
Slowly we make love
Sign Your Name - Terrence Trent D'Arby Sananda Maitreya (When dafuq did this guy pull a Cat Stevens on us?)

5. Er war ein Punker
Und er lebte in der großen Stadt
Es war in Wien, war Vienna
Wo er alles tat
Rock Me Amadeus - Falco (His mulligan for the awful original version of Der Kommissar...)

6. Workin' so hard like a soldier
Can't afford a thing on TV
Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant (Came out right when I was first getting into music, and I always thought it was "Trick Avenue"....)

7. She's blinding, I'm flying
Right behind the rear-view mirror now
Got the feeling, power steering
Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now
Panama - Van Halen

8. Well, we found a little place that really didn't look that bad
I had a whisky on the rocks
And change of a dollar for the jukebox
Rock This Town - Stray Cats (Taking an early bow in the 2025 LSWE)....

9. Do I wanna go out with a lion's roar?
Yeah, I wanna go south and get me some more
Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine
They say I better stop or I'll go blind
She Bop - Cyndi Lauper

10. And when she's walking
She's looking so fine

Uptown Girl - Billy Joel

11. He got the voices speakin' riddles

He got a suitcase covered with rattlesnake hide
The Old Man Down the Road - Dan John Fogarty

12. Touch if you will my stomach
Feel how it trembles inside
When Doves Cry - Prince

Theme?

These videos all contain MOTORCYCLES!!!!

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of the game.

While I wanted another song with a video that contained a motorcycle, I think Earl was the only one who truly did this (and Hottie by sheer accident, oh, and Weasel whose Krox I missed). Still, I accepted ANYTHING motorcycle themed here. And I'm a tad disappointed nobody picked up on my clue I dropped about "Hurts So Good" last week and Kroxed it, as I would have definitely put it in this game had I not wasted it on the cat game...

Image Bonus: If you know the theme....

I almost went ahead and put the +5 next to Krox's name as soon as I saw Steve Martin ridin' to the dentist's office.... but I waited, and nope, nobody topped it. Excellent IB that, for once, I didn't have to look up...

That's funny... I think your hybrid motorcycler coming into view caused me to completely skip your Krox!

Points will be fixed...

Sprots gets 3 JJC points for trying to play twice, Dan Fogarty, and thinking I'd have any clue what key a song is in...
This piece of junk has developed a quirk where it bounces me out of the site I'm on. That's here on WWTBAM.

On gmail, the cursor bounces me up a couple of lines so that what I'm typing makes no sense whatsoever. (No smart remarks, I've heard 'em all.)

If I could figure out how to play twice, I'd probably get better scores . . .
