She was the "Alice" from Arlo Guthrie's 1967 hit song, Alice's Restaurant. Arlo Guthrie had Thanksgiving dinner with Brock and her husband in 1965 and helped clear some debris from the former church where Brock lived at the time. That led to Guthrie's arrest for illegal dumping, which in turn led to his writing Alice's Restaurant (she had just opened her first restaurant). The song was made into a movie in 1969, starring Guthrie as himself, and Brock had a small part. Her original restaurant closed before the song was released, but she used the money she made from the song and movie to open two more restaurants that, unlike her first restaurant, bore the name Alice's Restaurant.

Re: RIP Alice Brock
"Small" part is no exaggeration. I'm glad she made some money off the song, another one that I had almost by heart.
