Rutgers led Illinois 31-30 with 13 seconds left and Illinois facing fourth and 13 from the Rutgers 40-yard line. Illinois then attempted a 58-yard field goal which missed. Game over, right.
Wrong.
The Rutgers coach called timeout just before the kick. Seeing how badly his kicker missed, Illinois then sent the offense back on the field and completed a touchdown pass to win the game.
Interestingly, Georgia Tech faced the same scenario in its game with North Carolina State Thursday night, with Tech up by one point on the last play of the game, NC State attempted a 58-yard-field goal as well. However, they didn't get a do-over, and Tech won the game, 30-29.
