Holy Splitting Companies Batman
One of the fun things about holding stocks for decades is that you often find yourself owning several companies as the original sometimes splits into other companies.
I never thought I would beat Phillip Morris-purchased very cheaply in the aftermath of the tobacco lawsuits circa 2000.
I have mentioned before how it became:
1) Phillip Morris
2) Altria-Another tobacco company
3) Kraft-Heinz
4) Mondelez-a snack company
I re-invest the dividends in Kraft and Mondelez-but I no longer reinvest the PM and Altria dividends as I own as much as I want to and am currently using them to buy IBM.
BUT-today I learned of the Dupont multiplicity.
Years ago, I bought Dow Chemical-They merged with Dupont and then resplit into 3 companies.
1) Dow-more of a commodity chemical company
2) Dupont-More specialized stuff (I think)
3) Corteva-Agricultural products-seed and such
And then I found out today that Dupont is splitting into 3 companies.
So the "Dow" investment several years ago will soon become 5 companies-that is kind of fun.

Oh, and if anybody is wondering what happened to my Bored Hedge Fund-simply put-I needed the money for Africa last year.
it certainly fit my OCD nature-but not sure if I want to put the time into it again in the future.

My mom entertained herself my investing during her retirement she gave her Invidia stock to one of my nieces before she passed in 2019. It’s worth substantially more now.

Conversely, I don't like it when a company that I like (and own) gets bought out and disappears from my ownership list. I just counted and of the 33 stocks in the portfolio-7 of them are spinoffs of splits (or whatever) of another company, soon to be 9 of 35 when the Dupont deal is completed. That does not count the original company that did the spinoff. For example, Montana Dakota Utilities spun off Knife River-but that only counts as one.
By pure chance, when I first started playing the "Bored Hedge Fund Game" I bought AT&T and I happened to also get their spinoff of Warner Brothers Discovery-but I was completely bored out of my skull owning them so I dumped them both.
Howmet Aerospace was a spin-off of General Electric-somewhere along the way I sold GE-but I have kept (and will keep) Howmet.

As I said somewhere else-I have spent a lot of time the last couple months in a Sirius enabled tractor. CNBC is on my regular listen list. I would enjoy CNBC more if they didn't focus 90% of the time on the 7 (or so)big tech companies.
