Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has been elected the next president of the United Mexican States, becoming the most prominent Jewish and the most prominent female national leader in the world. Her ancestry is both Ashkenazi (from Lithuania) and Sephardi (from Bulgaria).

I usually see that phrase transliterated as "mazel tov." --Bob

You do realize that I share membership in that ethnic or religious group with jarnon. (I think we're both Ashkenazic.)

But I said it carefully. I didn't say jarnon was wrong. I said I'd usually seen it transliterated a different way. Saying it that way was designed to invite someone to educate me, if appropriate. --Bob
