AI pondering

Was thinking re students, who, granted, use AI to write stuff for them, but what about someone producing a book report or thesis, and, because much of the theme will elicit common phrases or motifs; or, if it is so arcane would elicit the same type of common answers due to weirdness, would their profs or teachers be more likely to accuse of plagiarism?

I realize that was a horribly long and poorly constructed question. Def not AI

Was accused of plagiarism once in my life, in college. English lit/crit or something, met everyday, small class. We had to write, in class, our explanations etc. Paradise Lost was the one. I actually skimmed it and noted that on my paper that I didn't feel like reading it to begin with. Not too bright. However,
Prof called me in and said I plagiarised. Told him why would I take someone else's stupidity, etc? I was pissed.
He recanted after my next couple of in class writings, realizing he had been wrong.
Got an A.

I had a project turned in last month that suggested it was plagiarized, due to the gap between the student's in-class work and this paper.

I did a video call with him where I pointed this out, and he said he had worked very hard on polishing it, and had indeed used some help on that. I said in the future, to flag teachers so we would know that (I'm a fan of using the writing center or whatever, that's not an issue).

Then I asked him to explain seven terms or concepts in the project, and he could do so on all but one, which I think was more of a translation issue than him not knowing the ideas.

This instance turned out OK, but few teachers have time to do oral exams with all of their students.
