Lyrically Speaking - 1/22/24

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Jan 22, 2024 7:55 am

Let's get this year's LSWE kicked off with our very first edition of Sesame Street Monday! I chose a letter of the alphabet at random, and the number 22 means that the key letter for this game will be good old V. Not the worst choice, but are there really a lot of V songs and artists out there? I already know the answer to that question, because in the December 2004 LS I ran, I did a game of nothing but one-word V titles!

The way this will work (and every other Monday game as well) is the odd numbered songs have V titles, and the even numbered songs have V artists. Articles (a/an/the) are ignored, and we use the last names of solo artists. Pretty simple, right?

As I've done in the past, I'll leave the first game open an extra day, so this one will close at some point on Wednesday morning. But don't get caught napping since there'll be no extensions like I've done in the past (see the friggin' rules)....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you copy/paste the lyrics, leave the bolded word in #4 bolded to prevent an Internal Server Error

1. Can't seem to get my mind off of you
Back here at home, there's nothin' to do

2. Trading my time for the pay I get (up!)
Living on money that I ain't made yet (up!)
Gotta keep goin' gotta make my way (up!)
But I live for the end of the day (up!)

3. And now we meet in an abandoned studio
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago
And you remember the jingles used to go

4. Don't wanna discuss it
Think it's time for a change
You may get disgusted
Start thinkin' that I'm strange

5. Well it was all of sixty-five years ago
When the world was the street where she lived
And a young man sailed on a ship in the sea

6. Have you seen her, so fine and pretty?
Fooled me with her style and ease
And I feel her from across the room
Yes, it's love in the third degree

7. I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead, long live the king

8. I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of ya over myself
I want a doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well

9. A goddess on a mountain top
Was burning like a silver flame

10. I got no fare to ride a train
I'm nearly drownin' in the pouring rain

11. Sitting on a pebble by the river playing guitar
Wondering if we're really ever gonna get that far

12. You packed in the morning, I
Stared out the window and I
Struggled for something to say

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist where either one begins with the letter V (2 point bonus if BOTH title and artist begin with the letter V).

Just When I Needed You Most - Randy Vanwarmer

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist where either one begins with the letter V (2 point bonus if BOTH title and artist begin with the letter V).

Nobody came up with a double-V, which didn't surprise me. For the record, since it will likely come into play in future letter games, I won't include any doubles in the game to keep valid Kroxes alive for you all...

Image Bonus: This image bonus is sponsored by the letter V.

How can you top Vamoose, Vagina and Vinatieri? With Velocipede, that's how! It helps that one of the recent Uncle John's Bathroom Readers I plowed through had a multi-part history of the bicycle. Anyway, Mikehardware gets the first Image Bonus Bonus of the 2024 LSWE! Someone won big in Vegas (V-word!) on that bet....

JJC Points:

jarnon gets a JJC point for what I thought at first was Sinead O'Connor...

Panic gets 2 JJC points for VV Top and Vlad the Impotent...

BiT gets 2 JJC points for the Vamoose bus...

Krox gets 3 JJC points for the V TV series, which I was hoping someone would include. I remember my Mom really being into that stupid show when all I cared about was Knight Rider and the A Team...

mikeh gets 3 JJC points for Julian Lennon's backside and for the old school wheels...

frank gets a JJC point for Queen Vicki, who I never knew was a bit pudgy...

Beebs gets a supermax for the interesting V words, though it was Very Ed Gein that clinched it...

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for VERY mediocre competition...

mrk gets a JJC point for not including Sinead O'Connor...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for When Vajayjays Attack...

Earl gets 3 JJC points for kitties, reading Hottie' mind, and for a song I always thought was a joke thrown together by some local morning DJ's back in the day. I had no idea it was a real thing!

melly gets a JJC point for culture...
