Seeking EVERYONE'S Opinion On Proposed Political Forum

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Wed Aug 16, 2023 12:45 pm

The insiders, the outsiders, and anyone in between.....

Would you like to see a separate forum for all political related topics/discussions/flame wars/shitposting/dick wagging, etc.?

IF such a subforum were created, then ALL political topics started OR continued after its creation would be moved there if posted on the main forum.

That is a condition I would not waver from. If we're going to "clean up" the Bored for those who've long tired of that kind of stuff, we're going all-in or not at all....

Any decision on the creation of a subforum (which I think I can do without needing to prod Dave) would not come until a few days have passed for everyone to give their input here yea, nay or WGAS. Probably at least a week...

I'm not a fan of creating another forum myself, but I'm open to it if there's enough support for it....

I am all for it. Many BBs have stated that they have left or limited their time here because of the political sniping on the main board. I’m all for sniping, just make it happen in its own forum.

Remember: if we get a quorum we get a forum!

Curious, would the Montana thread be considered political?

I had the same thought about the Harvey List thread. I am in favor of setting up a political forum but I also know that some threads that start out as non-political become political when someone injects a political comment and someone else on the opposite side replies to it. And I know I'm guilty of doing that sometimes as well.

Does that mean that when non-political threads become political, they're removed to the new forum?

I'd be in favor, but I share a similar concern about gray areas like the Montana climate thread and what happens when a non political post leads to a political thread.

I would not consider the Montana thread political, as currently constructed. Same for the Harvey thread.

I consider a thread to be political (or turn political) when it has strong opinions from both the left and the right and goes from discussion to dumping ground.

I know it when I see it.

Besides, no thread will be deleted, just moved.

I'm the one who inadvertently started this, and I wasn't even looking for a separate forum, just an end to sniping and baiting and name-calling. I can go either way, and I don't think we should be too dogmatic about what is or isn't "political."

I took a screenshot of the most recent posts and put a large red diamond next to those that I would consider as political:

I'm all for a separate subforum for politics, and I"m willing to let the judgment of the admins be the guide as to whether a thread should be moved there or not.

Who, exactly, are the admins?

In red. Dave, lb, and Eyegor. But once the change is made, moderators (in green) will be able to move threads to the new forum. Vandal and I are moderators, and I think there's at least one other but I can't remember who. --Bob

Since there are many people who don't check the BORED regularly - some of them because of the political posts - you might want to put an alert about this 'poll' on the BORED Facebook page. That's what I do to let people know I've put up a new game.

I tend to skip the topics that don't interest me, and I'm not a fan of people arguing and getting personal. It's close, but I'd be slightly in favor of a separate political forum. Then folks who are interested in that sort of thing can still participate, and it'll be easier to ignore for everyone else.

I probably will check the political stuff when something is in the news, just to keep up on the different perspectives. I don't expect to see reasonable debate anytime soon.

I don't come around much any more, and it's not because of all the political posts.

With that, I think it's a good idea to move politics to a separate Forum.
