A new rule I'd like to see

#1 Post by franktangredi » Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:46 am

I'd love to see anything posted here using the name of another member with the express purpose of baiting or mocking said member taken down immediately.

I know it won't happen, and probably shouldn't happen. But shouldn't we all have outgrown NYAH NYAH NYAH?

This is one of the patterns that's why some of us only wander by once a week. I would love to have a new forum added for politics (where we have the main forum, suggestion box, transcripts, etc.), and the folks who want to chirp about that stuff could go there. The rest could stick to the main forum.

I do appreciate having multiple views, and I would never want to stop someone from speaking (even and especially if I don't agree with them). But these conversations tend to be the same 6-8 people talking to each other, or shouting at each other, and maybe everyone else shouldn't have to wade through it.

That’s fair criticism. I’ll admit to having done this, and will oblige your request.

I’ll stop posting obnoxious things here.

I don't know how this could be done, but if you could set up a political forum, I'd be all for it. I'd also be in favor of a games forum. As it is, all of Frank's and Vandal's old games seem to just slide off the end of the board into oblivion. I wouldn't mind being able to access these at a later date for any I'd missed or forgotten, and this would be a wonderful resource for Bored newbies.

I'm sure I've done this, too. However what about mocking, baiting members' beliefs during discussions, without naming a particular person? Who's gonna define boundaries? And what's considered political? Aren't all politics personal?
Well, then

For once, I agree with you Frank. I can express my views very easily without getting personal. I wonder if others can, as well.

As a moderator, I (along with Bob#s) have the ability to move posts, copy posts and topics, split posts and topics and a few other powers in my trick bag and I would be happy to move things around once we get the sub-forums mentioned above set up.

But that is up to LB and TubaDave, who have administrator powers. Perhaps if we get a consensus of what the upgraded Bored structure should look like, then we can rouse the sleeping admins. It can't hurt to try.

What new (sub-) forums would you like to see?

All Things Politics

Bored Fun and Games

Movies and TV

General Bored Topics

Bring it!

BTW, none of this would fix the point of the original post. Moderator/admin rules would need to be discussed.

Why don't you take the throwing shit to X, where you'll be in good company?

As Skoop said, I wander by to glance and catch up on health updates, etc.

Oh yeah, play games.

I would likely be active in three of the four.

Going off to the Moratorium Lounge for a large fukola now.

Well I would like Gender Defender to come back and that ain’t gonna happen either
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
