A Friend's Mother's Funeral

#1 Post by Spock » Sat Jul 29, 2023 9:17 am

Went to a funeral for the 92-YO (So it was time) mother of friend.

She had been a widow for 55 or so years (never re-married) as her husband had died in an accident in 1967(I think)

When he died, she was left with 10 kids age 11 YO and down. Our friend is the second youngest so she has no memories of her dad.

They grew up poor, but a happy family. IIRC, they had an uncle on a farm that helped them out.

Our friend had married a long-time friend of mine and he died of cancer almost 20 years ago already.

Her 2 kids were pretty young at the time and they asked if she would get married again and her philosophy is that she wasn't interested and if her mom could do it-so could she.

It was about 180 mile drive and she was very surprised and glad to see us there. As we were driving down, I was getting more and more glad that we were going as I had been in the wedding and had had some interaction with some of the 10 siblings over the years.

My model has always been based on another friend, I did not know his mother at all, but we heard through the grapevine that she had died and we went to the visitation. He was so happy and surprised to see us there.

I'm sorry to hear about your family friend.

I want you to know that I was unaware of this post when I posted my most recent political reply, which I must have still been composing when you posted this.
I would never have done so if I saw this post first. I apologize if I have caused you any additional sadness through my post. I have now deleted my post.

Thanks, and to make you feel better, I didn't see it.

FTR-I didn't post this for any sympathy points or anything (not that type of relationship) but because of the defining and interesting (to Me)feature of her life where she was left a young widow whith 10 kids under 12.

Sorry, too.
However, I honestly don't know how women do that. I would have been committed and that's not sarcasm.
Well, then
