Wordle 668 4/6
Over 20% of the players busted on this word, and NYT's WordleBot needed five guesses to solve it. How did I nail it in four to extend my win streak to 113 days? I'm not gonna tell you right now because today's game is still active. I'll reveal my secrets tomorrow morning.

Spectacular bad guessing with one letter to go. In retrospect, I'd have done better if I hadn't been so close on the second word because I'd have had more letters to use.

Re: Wordle
SIREN/OCTAL/DUMPY is the traditional opening three words for many Wordle players to test as many different letters as possible. However, in the nearly two years that I've been playing, I've found that SLATE/CORNY/HUMID is more efficient in getting greens. (In fact, SLATE was actually the answer a few months ago to give me only my second one-guess win ever.)Pastor Fireball wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 4:30 pmWordle 668 4/6

Unfortunately, SLATE was a nothing burger yesterday. CORNY produced a green O and N. I was set to go for HUMID, but I quickly realized, "Uh-oh... this could be the _OUND trap." As far as I know, there are eight 5-letter words in the English language that end in _OUND and my two starting guesses eliminated SOUND and ROUND. Most people are wont to try as many _OUND words as guesses allow... but, in my situation, there was only a 66.7% chance that I would find the correct _OUND. With such a long win streak at risk, my best option was to use a filler word that tested as many of those six remaining starting letters at once. I settled on WHOMP to test WOUND, HOUND, MOUND, and POUND. If all of the consonants were gray, then I would have been left with just BOUND and FOUND. But the H was yellow, so I knew the correct word.
(Ironically, if I had used my typical third guess of HUMID, I would have gotten the green H and D for the eventual 4/6 win anyway... but I couldn't take that chance.)
