Academy Awards - In Memoriam

#1 Post by BackInTex » Wed Mar 15, 2023 8:00 am

I didn't wath the show but apparently William Hurt was left out of the In Memoriam.

I realize a lot more Academy members die each year than can fit in an appropiate length In Memoriam segment, but really, leave out an Actor who has a top 4 Oscar win, Best Actor in a Leading Role? And 3 other nominations?

Seems there would be some prioritization guidelines, the top be Academy Award Winner.

There were other snubs that the Twittersphere is complaining about, but Hurt's snub seems to be the most relevent.

Mr. Hurt died on March 13, 2022. Here is the In Memoriam from the 94th Academy Awards, March 27, 2022.

Thanks! I see now that the awards were televised on the 27th of the month rather than this year's 12th. Hurt died on the 13th so I was assuming he died after the 2022 show.

Paul Sorvino was left out of this year's segment, although his Goodfellas co-star Ray Liotta was included. Sorvino's daughter Mira was very upset and called out the Academy publicly about it.

There's always controversy about people who get left out every year.
