Lyrically Speaking - 2/9/23

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Feb 09, 2023 5:00 am

Below are eighteen songs divided up into six trios. Each of the trios adds together in the same way to form one of six objects you'll find in the list below the game. I don't think you'll have too much trouble figuring out how this game works.... maybe knowing enough songs to make the matches might be difficult. This game was also a lot harder to put together than I imagined, so I did take some minor liberties that really shouldn't throw you off too much. Anyway, this game has a possible 69 (huh huh!) points (not counting IBB or JJC).... so you definitely don't want to miss playing this one if you want to keep your spot in the standings!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for each correctly identified object...

1. You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation

2. Said, "Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?"
I said, "Doctor, to relieve this bellyache?"

3. I never did it, no, I won't admit it
Why should I lie for you anymore
You never loved me, you pushed and shoved me
I see the woman I never saw

Object #1:

4. Everything here is so clear, you can see it
And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it's real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
Can you dig it

5. I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me

6. We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels

Object #2:

7. If you want to hang out
You've gotta take her out...

8. She's pretty as a daisy
But look out man she's crazy
She'll really do you in
If you let her get under your skin

9. She's been looking like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means

Object #3:

10. I walked on over and asked her to dance
Thinkin' maybe later we would make a romance
But every guy there was thinkin' like me

11. She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost, at such a cost

12. Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and we want go home

Object #4:

13. I'll tell you right now
Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can find

14. From where I stand
It looks mighty strange
How you let a woman like that
Treat you like small change

15. In the silence of her mind
Quiet movements where I can find
Grabbing for me with her eyes
Now I'm falling from her skies

Object #5:

16. Crystal ball on the table
Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes

17. His sister Pam works in a shop
She never stops, she's a go-getter

18. Take a whiff on me, that ain't no rose
Roll up yer window and hold your nose

Object #6:

Object List:

A color TV pixel
A Bomb Pop®
A traffic light
Neapolitan ice cream
A coral snake
The flag of Ireland

Kroxquo Bonus: Put together your own trio of songs (with artists) to create an object like the ones above. 10 points for a fully valid Krox, and I may award partial credit for unsuccessful attempts.

Image Bonus: Show me another object that would fit the theme of today's game.

Barbie Girl -- Aqua

2. Said, "Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?"
I said, "Doctor, to relieve this bellyache?"

Coconut -- Harry Nilsson

3. I never did it, no, I won't admit it
Why should I lie for you anymore
You never loved me, you pushed and shoved me
I see the woman I never saw

Object #1: I guess this one's the Bomb Pop, which means the unknown song must be something red. the pixel is definitely red, green, and blue, so it can't be this one, and nothing else has anything close to aqua in it that I can see.

4. Everything here is so clear, you can see it
And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it's real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
Can you dig it

Grazing in the Grass -- Hugh Masekala

5. I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me

Eye in the Sky -- Alan Parsons Project

6. We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels

Rock Lobster -- B-52s

Object #2: Color TV pixel

7. If you want to hang out
You've gotta take her out...

Cocaine -- Eric Clapton

8. She's pretty as a daisy
But look out man she's crazy
She'll really do you in
If you let her get under your skin

Poison Ivy -- The Coasters

9. She's been looking like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means

Barbie Girl - Aqua (Pink - I can't believe how much trouble I had coming up with something that definitely said pink. And of course, the band's name would be a distractor too...)

2. Said, "Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?"
I said, "Doctor, to relieve this bellyache?"
Coconut - Harry Nilsson (Brown - Yeah, I didn't like this one, especially knowing a lot of people would add the lime and think green, but I burned my earth songs in that game...)

3. I never did it, no, I won't admit it
Why should I lie for you anymore
You never loved me, you pushed and shoved me
I see the woman I never saw
Salt in My Tears - Martin Briley (White - It disturbs me how many people are unfamiliar with this song. If you don't know it, do yourself a favor and look it up. Not only an excellent rocker, but a really hilarious video from MTV's early era...)

Object #1: Neapolitan ice cream

4. Everything here is so clear, you can see it
And everything here is so real, you can feel it
And it's real, so real, so real, so real, so real, so real
Can you dig it
Grazing in the Grass - Friends of Distinction (Green - Hugh Whatshisname did not work here...)

5. I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me
Eye in the Sky - Alan Parsons Project (Blue - We used to call the Parsons Ammonia at work Alan Parsons Ammonia... which is funny since they had an album called Ammonia Avenue...)

6. We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Rock Lobster - B-52's (Red)

Object #2: A color TV pixel

7. If you want to hang out
You've gotta take her out...
Cocaine - JJ "Slowhand" Cale (White - Not that I know from personal experience....)

8. She's pretty as a daisy
But look out man she's crazy
She'll really do you in
If you let her get under your skin
Poison Ivy - Coasters )Green)

9. She's been looking like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means
Sundown - Gordon LIghtfoot (Orange - This was a toughy color as well...)

Object #3: The flag of Ireland

10. I walked on over and asked her to dance
Thinkin' maybe later we would make a romance
But every guy there was thinkin' like me
Sweet Pea - Tommy Roe (Green - And yes, I remember all the Fanny cats were named after songs, including this one....)

11. She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost, at such a cost
Ruby Tuesday - Rolling Stones (Red)

12. Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and we want go home
The Banana Boat Song - Harry Belafonte (Yellow)

Object #4: A traffic light

13. I'll tell you right now
Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can find
Sunshine Superman - Donovan Osborne (Blue - How did I run out of easy blue things so quickly?)

14. From where I stand
It looks mighty strange
How you let a woman like that
Treat you like small change
Bad Blood - Neil Sedaka (Red - Unless you have serious health issues...)

15. In the silence of her mind
Quiet movements where I can find
Grabbing for me with her eyes
Now I'm falling from her skies
No Sugar Tonight - Guess Who (White)

Object #5: A Bomb Pop®

16. Crystal ball on the table
Showing the future, the past
Same cat with them evil eyes
Devil Woman - Cliff Richard (Red)

17. His sister Pam works in a shop
She never stops, she's a go-getter
Mean Mr. Mustard - Beatles (Yellow - I wanted to use Here Comes The Sun, one of my faves, but this reinforced yellow better...)

18. Take a whiff on me, that ain't no rose
Roll up yer window and hold your nose
Dead Skunk - Loudon Wainwright (Black - Another color I struggled with!)

Object #6: A coral snake

Kroxquo Bonus: Put together your own trio of songs (with artists) to create an object like the ones above. 10 points for a fully valid Krox, and I may award partial credit for unsuccessful attempts.

I added the partial credit part because I planned on being a hardass with the Krox, and didn't want a whole ten points to hang on the balance of my whims. Any Kroxes where the colors were explicitly in the song titles did not get full credit... yielding anywhere from 8 points for only one offending song to 5 points if all three named colors. The other point was that your Krox had to satisfy the theme of prominently tri-colored objects... so Lucky Charms marshmallows only got half credit as well since there were always at least four different colored ones, and as many as six when I was a kid.

Image Bonus: Show me another object that would fit the theme of today's game.

I was not a hardass on this one, but images of tri-colored things got more consideration for JJC points and the IBB. Krox hit the theme in a unique way perfectly with the Synchronicity album, so he gets the IBB!

Is that because he has to protect his grown-up lawyer reputation or something, these days?

Four charms? I know they went bougie and there's 4854894833 different ones in today's cereal, but I remember the tag line from Ye Olden Tymes was 'yellow moons, pink hearts, green clovers' I had it in the wrong order until I said it out loud in the leprechaun voice, but I'm sure there were only three. What was the fourth? Now I'm going to have to dig, not because I care about the points, but could that be another misplaced childhood memory???

Orange stars, huh? I have absolutely NO memory of those! I wonder why they weren't in the tag line. I do remember when they added the blue diamonds, though. My research was not all in vain, however. I did learn that the maker of LC got the idea from circus peanuts. Another entry into the Fun Fact vault!
