OMG-The Tropes-It is so bad it is wonderful.
New rich husband and ex-wife of a main character are trying to discuss their relationship (at his pushing) in a grocery aisle in Southern California and he says "I feel like there is something pulling us apart"-seconds later-a massive seismic crack develops and opens up in the grocery aisle between them.
Throw in some bad CGI and Woody Harrelson as a crazy Art Bell character and you can't beat it.
Awesome-Hell, Yeah!!! I am sick and I can't wait to finish today.
Oh, and i forgot a fun one-you will have to forgive the spoiler.
The President tells his daughter-"I am going to tell you something that only 12 people in the admin know. Presumably, he told her that there are 4 massive space ships (100,000 people each) with seats sold ready to be launched.
Apparently, those 400,000 people aren't in the administration.
Awesome!!111

This is one of my favorite "Natural Disaster" movies, although not as good as "The Core".
John Cusack is the main character. You forgot to mention the Russian oligarch character, for whom Cusack works.
