Lyrically Speaking - 1/13/23

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Jan 13, 2023 7:25 am

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! One of the luckiest days of the year.

Speaking of luck, one of my favorite pastimes a little over a decade ago was playing Bingo. Yes, twenty and thirty-something me used to sit for several hours in the smoke-filled hall with plenty of ladies three times my age playing a game of chance! I thought it might be fun if we played a little Bingo in today's LSWE game, what do you say?

Great! Well, I guess I should pass out the cards now..... oh wait. I only have one Bingo card. I guess everyone will have to share it...

Image

There! Now, each of the songs below contains a number on this card in either the title or artist. If you get the title AND artist of the song correct, you get to cover that number on your card! If you get a line horizontally, vertically or diagonally, then you have BINGO! And be sure to yell loud enough to stop the game if you want to win. Alright, I hope everyone has their daubers in hand and Troll dolls on the table..... the game is about to start!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 5 points for getting a Bingo on the card....

1. Don't, don't you know the kind of man I am
No, said I'd never fall in love again
But it's real and the feeling comes shining through

2. Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever

3. Jump up and down and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound
Put your hand on the ground

4. I was cutting a rug
Down at place called The Jug
With a girl named Linda Lou

5. She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"
It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink

6. If I could go back again
Well I know I'd never let you go
Back with some of my friends
To that wonderful

7. And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor

8. She said, “It grieves me so
To see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do
To make you smile again”

9. I'd have sworn that with time
Thoughts of you leave my head
I was wrong, now I find
Just one thing makes me forget

10. I'm talkin' to myself in public, dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know they've all been talkin' about me
I can hear them whisper, and it makes me think
There must be somethin' wrong with me

11. Sweet things from Boston
So young and willing
Moved down to Scarsdale
Where the hell am I?

12. Hello lamppost, what cha knowing?
I've come to watch your flowers growing

13. Well, it goes from St. Louie, Joplin, Missouri
Oklahoma City looks ooh so pretty

14. But making mistakes is a part
Of life's imperfections
Born of the years
Is it so wrong to be human after all?

15. She knows (she knows)
There'll always be a special place in my heart for her
She knows, she knows, she knows
Yeah, she knows (she knows)
No matter how far apart we are
She knows I'm always right there beside her with

16. In the garden, I see west purples shower bells and tea
Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green
Pretty music I hear so happy and loud
Blue flowers echo from a cherry cloud

17. Out all night, sleep all day
I know what you're doin'
If you're gonna act that way
I think there's trouble brewin'

18. What used to take two hours now takes all day. Huh!
It took me 16 hours to get to L.A.

19. Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more?

20. But so far has not been good
It's been shitty, and I feel awkward as I should
This club has got to be the most pretentious thing
Since I thought you and me

Well, did you get a Bingo?

Well, did you get a Bingo?

Despite my intention not to make it too difficult to get a Bingo, I nevertheless placed the four numbers not in the game in the most diabolical spots on the card. Then I did change one to make it easier. I believer there were four possible bingos, and when I saw the song combos required to obtain each bingo, I knew this was gonna be a frustrating game for most of you....

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains a Bingo number in the title or artist.

Lucky for some of you that I haven't been enforcing my Krox rule about not repeating an element you already identified in the game! That may change at any time, though....

Image Bonus: BINGO!

Melly gets the Bingo for this IBB hands down! Quite stylish, although maybe too much skin for your average Bingo player to be showing....

JJC Points:

Panic gets 2 JJC points for going down to the last number and for Bingo Tinder...

Weasel gets a supermax for Garfunkel and Oates, dentures, O-69 (hopefully with the dentures removed) and for sucking up...

jarnon gets a JJC point for a Bingo card I'm proud to admit I understand very little of...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for baseball rejects who stole old Houston Astros uniforms...

frank gets 3 JJC points for proper Bingo cussing and for his type of Bingo. Incidentally, I originally only had 2 JJC points here, but then I got to laughing about atrophied junk and dished out an extra one!

Vandal gets a JJC point for a Frank who did get a bingo...

mrk gets 2 JJC points for the memory of censored Phil and for copying off Krox's paper...

ear gets a JJC point for being the only one to Image Bonus the dog...

Sprots gets a JJC point for the feline equivalent of a bingo player...

melly gets a supermax for best dressed bingo players...

Points:

Caught Up in You - .38 Special

aka Lynyrd Skynyrd lite

2. Standin' on your mama's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever

Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams

Along with Jessie's Girl and The Warrior, one of the top 'belt it out in the car' tunes

3. Jump up and down and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound
Put your hand on the ground

Mambo No. 5 - Lou Bega

Kyle Speller, longtime Nuggets!!!1 announcer, looks so much like Lou Bega, but they never play this at the games

4. I was cutting a rug
Down at place called The Jug
With a girl named Linda Lou

Gimme Three Steps - Lynyrd Skynrd

Woohoo! Prescient points!

5. She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"
It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink

Love Potion #9 - Clovers

6. If I could go back again
Well I know I'd never let you go
Back with some of my friends
To that wonderful

65 Love Affair - Paul Davis

I Go Crazy used to be one of my favourites songs, and now it seems so draggy and bland. Ah, teenagerdom...

7. And just when I thought she was comin' to my door
She whispered sweet and brought me to the floor

(She's Only) Seventeen - Winger

Sorry, Kip (aka Alice Cooper's bass player), but 'she's old enough for me' is not a valid defense...

8. She said, “It grieves me so
To see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do
To make you smile again”

50 Ways to Leave Your Lover - Paul Simon

9. I'd have sworn that with time
Thoughts of you leave my head
I was wrong, now I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red Red Wine - Neil Diamond, uh... Bob Marley, er.....UB40!!!

It's Diamond's song, Marley did the best version of it, but I guess you want that fruity English pseudo-reggae band....

10. I'm talkin' to myself in public, dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know they've all been talkin' about me
I can hear them whisper, and it makes me think
There must be somethin' wrong with me

Unwell - Matchbox Twenty

11. Sweet things from Boston
So young and willing
Moved down to Scarsdale
Where the hell am I?

Hey Nineteen - Steely Dan

Judging from the available numbers, this has to be in there somewhere....

12. Hello lamppost, what cha knowing?
I've come to watch your flowers growing

59th Street Bridge Song - Simon & Garfunkel

13. Well, it goes from St. Louie, Joplin, Missouri
Oklahoma City looks ooh so pretty

Route 66 - Nat King Cole

14. But making mistakes is a part
Of life's imperfections
Born of the years
Is it so wrong to be human after all?

33 Bottles of TJ Swann Later - Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth

15. She knows (she knows)
There'll always be a special place in my heart for her
She knows, she knows, she knows
Yeah, she knows (she knows)
No matter how far apart we are
She knows I'm always right there beside her with

16. In the garden, I see west purples shower bells and tea
Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green
Pretty music I hear so happy and loud
Blue flowers echo from a cherry cloud

Strawberry Letter 23 - Brothers Johnson

17. Out all night, sleep all day
I know what you're doin'
If you're gonna act that way
I think there's trouble brewin'

Funk #49 - James Gang

Yayayay!!!! I almost put James Brothers, which made me remember who did Strawberry Letter

18. What used to take two hours now takes all day. Huh!
It took me 16 hours to get to L.A.

I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy Slacks

19. Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more?

When I'm 64 - Beatles

20. But so far has not been good
It's been shitty, and I feel awkward as I should
This club has got to be the most pretentious thing
Since I thought you and me

Paralyzer - Finger Eleven

Now this is going to go through my head all day, yay! I almost went out to the car to get my CD and see if it's numbers or letters, but I think it's spelled out

Well, did you get a Bingo?

Here, diagonally!

Pretty sneaky, sis...

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains a Bingo number in the title or artist.

18 and Life - Skid Row

How much did you have riding on me going Alice here? Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions....

Image Bonus: BINGO!

Image

See how dedicated I am to this game? I forced myself to go to bingo and win Saturday just to get the appropriate picture for the IBB

Image

And to show that I'm serious, here's my bingo bag, custom designed and made by me, for me...

Dammit, once again I'm posting while you're closing! I would have been done in plenty of time, but I had to get my pictures from my phone, then couldn't figure out how to get them onto Google Drive, so I had to go with my wordpress blog, which has been so long they blocked my password so I had to reset it, whew....

It would have been so much easier to just search google for an image, but I'm a purist!

Some of you may have heard about the shootings at Club Q here in town, they had drag queen bingo every once in a while. It is also just about two blocks down from the bingo parlour I frequent and I was at bingo the night of the shooting, although I think bingo was already out by the time it happened.

And for all of you homo haters, several of the victims were not LGBTQ. One of them was one of my sister's branch managers, who was there with her husband, daughter and bf for the daughter's bday, as she wanted to see the drag show. She got out of ICU right before Thanksgiving, but she's still in the hospital, 4 or 5 surgeries down and about half a dozen to go.

"Fun" Fact: The guy who took down the shooter was also there with his wife, daughter and bf to see the show, That boyfriend didn't make it.
