Re: Republicans in Disarray
They should elect someone who exemplifies Republican values: George Santos.

So why hasn't anyone suggested Trump as Speaker? There's no requirement that the Speaker be a member of Congress.

Better that then spending their time trying to get Twitter to suspend people they don't like, the way Schiff, et al have spent the last six or so years.silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 10:53 amYou would think the Republicans would want to get this resolved as quickly as possible so they can get to their top priority these next two years...

That's why he's an important figure in today's Republican party.

Oh, wow congratulate yourselves -Democrats are good little soldiers who march in lockstep. Simple Unthinking Drones.
Many times people here have quoted Will Rogers with pride on being a Democrat.
>>>"I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat."<<<<
If that was ever true-it certainly doesn't apply anymore-and obviously applies more to the Republicans today.

It is weird how the block of 20 are NOT unthinking drones, even though they are acting in unison, over one concern - but everyone else. Go figure.Spock wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 12:09 pmOh, wow congratulate yourselves -Democrats are good little soldiers who march in lockstep. Simple Unthinking Drones.

That might be more credible if anyone had a clue what the rebels actually want (other than to figuratively burn the House down). They seem to be bound and determined to cripple our national defense, stand aside to allow Russian aggression to pay off, and hold as a hostage the good faith and credit of the United States.Spock wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 12:09 pmOh, wow congratulate yourselves -Democrats are good little soldiers who march in lockstep. And the thing is that none of these views are shared by a majority of the country, or of the House, yet they're doing their level best to be sure they'll be in position to impose those views anyway. In short, the most radical faction of the Republican Party is trying to get the rest of the Party to cave in to its demands, and McCarthy's personal ambition is so overwhelming that he will probably encourage them to do so if it means he gets to grip the Speaker's gavel, even for a minute and a half. --Bob

Re: Republicans in Disarray
Tell that to Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema.
Democrats have differences, and they may well have had differences in the votes for their new leadership positions. The difference is that they worked those differences out among themselves before presenting a united front to the public.
And considering that the Democratic position on most issues (abortion, tighter gun control) is in line with the majority of the public, it's the Democratic party that is representing the public will.

The 1988 Baltimore Orioles came out of the blocks 0 for 21, so 0 for 12 is really just warming up.
