Calling it quits after 39 years

#1 Post by earendel » Wed Nov 23, 2022 7:22 am

It's been in the works for several weeks but I'm officially retiring from my position with the Corps of Engineers next Wednesday. My office held a short retirement ceremony for me yesterday; now all I have left is to get my final clearance form signed off on by thirteen different offices, and turn in my common access card and government computer.

Congratulations.

I won't retire until they pry the mouse from my cold dead hand.

Congratulations!

I may be going out this year, too, at least as a fulltime high school teacher. I've got some irons in the fire, and I don't plan to completely quit working, but I always promised myself if the school year was ready to start and I wasn't looking forward to it, that would be my last year. For me, this was that year. The kids deserve better.

Good luck with any and all future endeavors.

Congrats Steve! I hope retirement will be a very positive experience.

My office held a short retirement ceremony for me yesterday;
That's the one thing I miss about my retirement. I retired during the height of COVID while working from home, so there was no party or anything. Another woman about my age retired three weeks before me, and early in the year, 2020, we talked about what sort of party they might throw. The last day I was in the office, the lottery president Gretchen was there and she rounded up a bunch of leftover swag to give me as a going-away present.
