As good as her screen work was, it paled in comparison to her stage work. I was lucky enough to see her on stage four times - once in Gypsy and three times in Sweeney Todd. She was mesmerizing.

Lucky to see her several times.

The end of her run in Mame, when I was a teenager and the revival of Blithe Spirit a few years ago (with Rupert Everett and Christine Ebersole),

I haven't read an obit yet, but I know I'll be surprised at some of her accomplishments and will be delighted to relive many memories.

Mom used to have us over for Sunday dinner, then we would watch Murder, She Wrote and guess the murderer. I remember one in particular -- I figured out that the guy committed suicide and made it look like a murder to get at least one of his unsavory acquaintances in trouble.

She was amazing -- I liked her better than I did Judy Garland in The Harvey Girls.

-- America would be a better place if leaders would do more long-term thinking. -- Wilma Mankiller

I had tickets to see her in "Blithe Spirit" in L.A. a few years ago. Unfortunately, she was under the weather and we saw her understudy instead. Angela's reviews at the time were great.

As the story linked below says, "all sorts of great stories about the beloved acting legend are resurfacing."

Here's one that surprised me:

They are dimming the marquee lights in her honor tonight for one minute at 7:45pm ET.

The statement from the Broadway League said they are happy to share her with Hollywood.

Every time somebody says how did she not win any of those 12 straight Emmy nominations, I would say she could manage just fine with five Tonys (now six, after her lifetime award, which is not a competitive award but it's still way more than most of us will ever have). It was quite a while before Audra MacDonald broke that record.
