Best Restaurant Name Ever*

#1 Post by Spock » Sat Oct 01, 2022 10:16 pm

With an asterisk because they changed the name a few years ago.

For decades we have driven past a restaurant (about 75 miles away) called "Anton's Fish and Whiskey"-Hey, you simply can't beat that name, but I guess they simply go by "Anton's" now.

We (well, mainly me) have always said we should go there sometime. Well, sometime arrived.

I read a little description of them in a Star Tribune Taste section that they have 75 types of Scotch. Ding, Ding-they just moved to the top of the list. I had Lagavullin (sp?) which is Ron Swanson's brand in Parks and Rec.

Then I looked at their website and they had mussels as an appetizer-well, that increased the urgency of the visit. They were good, with a lot of spice, and I would have them again.

I also saw that as as an entree they had duck(probably my favorite meat) so there we went. I probably would not have the duck there again-and go with a fish instead. One other semi-nearby restaurant does a better job with duck.

Um....No! It was Trump Burger. Even SSS thinks so.

This could be 2nd best though.

That sounds good, but St. Cloud is a bit too far for me.

Mabel Murphy's in Fergus Falls has the better duck. They have a fun (and made-up) play on their origins with "The Legend of Mabel" on their homepage.

The first time we ate at the fine dining part of Mabel's was for a friend's 50th Birthday. Another friend was along and the best description of him is that he doesn't have an "Inside Voice." I am afraid everyone in the place heard his profane renditions of various stories. While they did tuck us away in an alcove-to this day, I am surprised they did not tell us to quiet down or even kick us out.
