Honestly I can't believe

#1 Post by Beebs52 » Fri Feb 25, 2022 8:08 pm

We are actually watching, listening and dealing with this. No politics on my part. It is really what the fuck.
What century are we in?

Well I have been practicing the old “drop and cover” from childhood.

Seriously, I am frightened for the world. He has been emboldened for 8 years, since Crimea, planning and getting ready. It took having a strong Ukrainian leader for him to finally move. He will not stop with Ukraine.

(Please note, nothing in the above is a political comment, so don’t make it one)

Why else is he holding back so much of the Russian army? I see that Khazakstan has refused to send Putrid any support, and they are supposed to be Russia’s ally. China also abstained on the vote to condemn Russia, rather than vot with Russia.

Yeah. And it breaks my heart, too.

And I’m afraid that the people in Ukraine and Russia are watching, probably almost exclusively and repetitively, as many powerful people in our country are calling Putin a genius and indicating in one way or another that we don’t really care about them.

Hope they can know somehow that there are many here who care. Not sure they’re seeing that. Just hope that they are.

Russia has about a million man military, but that includes all branches of the services and it also includes non-combat support personnel that are manning installations all over the largest country in the world. Their total number of combat forces is considerably smaller, and most of them are in the Ukraine (I've heard as much as 75%).

Putin has now warned Finland and Sweden not to join NATO. Guess those holdbacks might see some action after all.

And this is what frightens me. What if, once Ukraine is through, Putin decides that the Baltic States must withdraw from NATO, or demands that missiles be withdrawn from Poland? At what point do we decide that enough is enough and a new European war breaks out - one that would go nuclear?
