William Shatner is Going to Space
via Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin. IIRC, the launch date is October 12.
Actually, I am kind of surprised that this has escaped notice here.

Once he does, he'll be the oldest person to have gone into space, surpassing Senator John Glenn's shuttle ride.

I wonder if it's going to be just a bit awkward if the other three in the Blue Origin capsule will be wearing red shirts.

I'd rather have had Spock, but he wasn't available. For a Science Officer, he smoked too many damn cigarettes . . .
Shatner did way better than I expected upon disembarking. You could tell it wasn't scripted -- he didn't chew up the scenery . . .

Re: William Shatner is Going to Space
Bezos' next Blue Origin flight will have some special passengers as well. Good Morning America co-host and former NFL All-Pro Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, daughter of Alan Shepard, will be on the flight that leaves on December 9. The spacecraft is fittingly named the "New Shepard." There will be four other paying passengers on the flight as well.
Strahan is being honored this Sunday by the New York Giants, who will be retiring his number 92 during their game with the Philadelphia Eagles.
