One of the first popular comics to include controversial political material in his routines. Woody Allen called Sahl his comic inspiration. Sahl was a vocal critic of the Warren Commission findings on the JFK assassination and worked for New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison at one time.

One of his jokes from the 1970s is one I use (modified as needed) in my "instant comeback" list.

He told of elderly man and woman discussing living together to cut expenses. After a few compatibility questions (politics, smoking, etc.), the woman asks "what about sex?"

The man responded "Infrequently"

After a comedic pause, the woman replied "Is that one or two words?"
